Please, please, please give me some words of wisdom on this. This has NEVER been a problem before, and it has suddenly become one in the last couple of months. I don't know what has changed or why this is now an issue, but it is and it needs to be fixed. IMMEDIATELY!

I recently returned from my 70 mile bike ride. I am badly chafed. So bad, I am sitting on an ice pack as I type this. I feel like someone has taken a Brillo pad to my crotch. It is currently covered in Neosporin (I warned you this would be TMI!!!).

In the 4 years that I have been riding a bike, I have never had this problem before. In fact, when I rode all 112 miles of the IMSG course (my longest ride ever), I had absolutely no lube down there. I never used it! NEVER! Not until recently. In the last couple of months, it has become more and more of a problem. I started using Aquaphor, and it helped a little, but as the mileage increased, so did the chafing. Today I want to die.

Why is this a problem NOW?? What changed? Have I suddenly turned into a super sweaty salty person? Is that it? WTF??? I hurt so bad right now, any words of advice you have will be appreciated.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm so glad I currently have no sex life.

Thanks for listening.

Shorts worn out? Using a different detergent to wash shorts with and having a reaction?

I would imagine the AZ heat could be a factor as well.  IMSG temps are not the same as AZ, so the sweat levels could be an issue.

I have not yet used the stuff, but someone was telling me about Anti-Monkey Butt, which is used by firefighters and others to avoid chafing down there.

As why you have it now, I can't say.  But to heal it use the creamy white A&D Ointment.  (Not the yellow oily version).

it's been not only hot, but humid.  So, the environment has changed.  That probably has something to do with it.  A high quality, new pair of shorts/bibs is probably a good idea as well.

so sorry! I agree with others that the humidity could play a factor.
I remember getting this white THICK paste from my OB dr..(she called it the butt paste from heaven :-)) after having my second son...it was AMAZING and very healing! maybe contact your dr and see if they have anything to help - mine gave me lots of samples.
Ive been using HooHah Ride Glide this year with no problems whatsoever! I used to use Aquaphor (with babies in the house...it was available) but I found it had no staying power and was gone in anything over an hour.
2 big TB of ride glide, body glide on the thighs and I am good to go (who ever said this was a glamourous sport :p). Hope you feel better soon!

Hey Adela, I agree with others that heat is probably a factor. I was getting heat rash when training for IMAZ that I didn't get when training for IMSG.

I tried Aquaphor as anti-chafing on the bike, and it didn't work for me. Great for running, not so great for the bike. So I switched to Assos Chamois Cream. It's the only stuff that works for me, and unfortunately only Bicycle Haus carries it (or you can order it online).
