Heard this weekend that ACME has bought out Endurance in Franklin. Anyone else hear this?

Yes, there is a press release on the Acme Website confirming it.

Got an update from Team Magic (email) last week.  Good for them!  Maybe more buying power... could be better for us as the consumer.

not sure if it's a buy out, a merger or a combination of the two. they re-open tomorrow, so we'll see what it's about. will stop by if I can.

I believe it was a buy out.  The owner of Endurance had a really good job offer in sales that he couldn't pass up.  Wonder if they'll still do the OWS training days for the Nashville Tri-Club anymore.

shop is closing its doors tomorrow. They posted a reason on facebook, not buying it though. I think they came in with a short term goal with no real plans to keep it open. Sucks because there is nothing local , but there is a great tri scene around here.

see ya'll around.

Wow!  That didn't last long.  I know they've been cutting their prices on new bikes a bunch to move them out.  I plan to stop by there today and see what's on clearance.

The shop wasn't making any money.  That's the bottom line.

I know there was a problem with the inventory they could sale. I went to ACME a couple weeks ago. I was told they couldn't sell most of their current product lines (Cervelo, Felt, etc) in Franklin due to other shops already having the rights to those products in that area.

I heard about them not being able to sell some of their cycling lines in that area as well, but you would think that would be known going in.. Understand about not making any money, but I would think you give it more than 45 days (especially at the end of tri season) to work out the kinks.  Will have to see what works out, i'll need to  have a real reason to need to drive 100ish miles round trip to go to the store in goodletsville.

Wish them the best, just certain things aren't adding up for me.. oh well, hope someone steps up in the future locally here.

There were a number of issues that are publicly known, some are privately known.

If you recall the way it was announced, it really was more of a due diligence period than a direct buyout...hence the partnership.  It was well known that Dan needed to unload the store asap.  IMO, ACME came in at the 11th hour and tried to do the right thing...for themselves and for the tri community.

In the end, there were some things (leases, inventory, contracts and more) that didn't work in their favor.  They tried to work around a few obstacles to develop a sustainable business model within the current framework but were met with a lot of resistance.  And all these things negatively affected the bottom line.  So rather than dilute the ACME brand, they pulled the plug.

Do any of you trek a bit farther north to shop for tri stuff at REI?  At least they have clothes you can try on.  The staff was helpful when I bought my bike there, but I wasn't shopping specifically for a tri bike.  And I usually don't buy things there unless they're on sale.

Hubby and I buy so much of our sporting stuff online now, but it is nice to have real people in a store who can chat with you.  Again, a store a bit farther north, but the guys at Team Nashville are great.

Further North than????  REI is in Brentwood.

I've shopped there for non-bike stuff.  And I think I got a pair of Shimano cycling shoes there a few years ago on closeout.  I also once went there to buy some small parts for a bike build I was doing.

Does Team Nashville have anything but running gear?  I was in there once and don't remember anything bike related, although there may have been swim goggles.

Where are you looking?  Franklin has a couple of nice bike shops.
