Comments:

First km about as fast as I expected - 4:35. Felt good so tried to settle into a comfortable pace which would be around 4:50. Second km came in at 4:21. Didn't fret - thought I'd still settle back. 3rd km split came a bit early so I got to thinking Garmin had gotten a bad bounce - 4:03 - Yes I am quite certain that was a bad bounce. 4th km split 4:30 - still felt comfortable. 5th km split 4:36 - okay only 5 km to go - still feeling good. 6th km split 4:34. 7th km split 4:34. 8th km split 4:30. 9th km split 4:42 - had walked briskly through a water station as I felt I needed to get a bit of hydration before finish. 10th km split 4:24. Race chip time came in at 45:29 which I am very happy with (given that I am now 40 years old! (41 in 2 more weeks!)

Going to have to watch my pace closely next Saturday - Melissa's 22 km road race in Banff. Will get out for 1 or 2 runs this week but otherwise rest legs for the race. Will swim Tuesday and Thursday morning to keep up the cardio.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - quite happy with my run.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, walked back 1 km to watch for my wife and jogged in with her.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hmmmm # 1 age. # 2 I am training primarily for Melissas 22 km race which is next weekend so pushing any harder this year would risk injuring myself or hampering my time next weekend.

Event comments:

Race is open to others to run the course but to get a timing chip your company must field anywhere from 4 to 6 runners (evenly split male/female).

Steve:

Strong as ever on the run ... those training km's have paid off (well) in the form of 7:30's/mi (sorry, had to convert to clunky English units).

Your splits (especially the last mile) show that you are well on your well to having the base to finish the 22km strong.

Keep it up!

Ugh. You're making me do math in my head!! Imperial please for us slow-witted non-metric freaks!

GREAT PACE and time for your 10k! Congratulations! Was it a flat course or hilly? How lucky you are to be running when it's nice and cool!

This was a race from 2005 folks!  I posted it back in September 2005.  But thanks for the feedback.

I would have known that except your calendar is metric.
