Event warmup:

Not much (was not sure were to run)
Swim
  • 25m 32s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 42s / 100 meters
Comments:

I positionned on the front and left but then realized that most racers with TRI watches were holding on the back. Maybe that was just an impression, but I decided to step back a little. That was a good plan for me as I found I passed a lot of people after the first 400 meters.
Much more confident this time than my first event! I was not shy for a bit of contact to make my way. As for navigation, there are lines on the bottom in order to hold the small buoys, so limited sighting was necessary BUT a bit of congestion close to these lines
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1

Comments:

Learned from last time to keep the time chip INSIDE the wet-suit. Did not get stuck at the ancke this time. But what a pain to get the socks and lace the running shoes to get into my cages...
What would you do differently?:

Obvious bike equipment upgrade for next year season....
Bike
  • 1h 18m 51s
  • 40 kms
  • 30.44 km/hr
Comments:

Felt good and great progress from June when I get my bike. But a LOT of area of improvment judging at the speed of the serious competitors!!! Given my level of fitness and time on the saddle, I felt I gave my 100%
Again, could not tolerate gatorate in the middle. Good thing I had a second bottle with water, but I did not practice reaching out to the second bottle, so I lost some time when hydrating.
What would you do differently?:

Looking at HR data after the fact, it went down in the middle, but I did not realize this while racing. Next race, I'll get a bike computer to have more feedback during the race. Also upgrade to clipless pedals and will consider aerobars.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No bike shoes, so very easy
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 44m 30s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 27s  min/km
Comments:

Started to push at km 6. That was a bit ambitious for what was left of my energy level. I think I managed to keep the pace but the last km was a struggle, but I am very happy about my result.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe increase the pace more gradually?
Post race
Warm down:

Not much (walk around)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, especially on the bike.
Hydration / Nutrition: not sure why I cannot tolerate Gatorade during the races but OK in training. Will stick to water for Olympic distances...

Event comments:

Once you manage to get to the race site (which is a bit of a challenge between the traffic jams, the parking and walking from the car park to transition), the site and atmosphere are very good. The weather was fine so overall it was a very nice event and think we'll be there next year. Highly recommend it!

Hey Fdulak, great race! I tried sending this already but didn't look like it went so you may get 2. Anyway, math isn't my strong suit but I believe your run splits looked great, way to go. Wish I could get mine so low but there is always something setting me back, frustrating. Hope our run went well with your daughter, I wasn't sure from reading the bottome of the "achillies" thread...it didn't look good. Injury sucks but at least we're in the off season..well at least for tri's, it looked like you had a marathon coming up, good luck if that's still on.

Take care!

Patsy
