Run
Comments: This was the first race that I believe I managed well. I lived on Main St. right at the finish line for a coupla years and although this my first time running on these roads I'm pretty familiar with them from biking there. It's a pretty hilly course with a couple of challenging climbs, one long gradual climb and three long declines. My strategy was to steal as much time from the clock on the downhills as I could while doing my best to maintain my pace on the uphills without blowing up my legs. I think I executed this well and only paid for the James St. hill(steepest climb) for about a 1/4 mile after getting to the top. What would you do differently?: Try and finish 13 seconds faster to go sub 50 :) Actually nothing, I pretty much left it all out there on the course. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a bagel, banana and a beer down at the post race party in the park. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nada, for my first standalone 10k, this was as good as it was gonna get. Event comments: Northport, to me, is the nicest town on LI and they really do a great job taking advantage of all it has to offer in this race. Top notch race, really well put together. Woke up at 5:45am and ate a couple of whole wheat mini bagels and a coffee on the way to the race. Got there early and parked right next to the start after getting some good logistical intel from Bobby.
