Extreme Veteran 640 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad subbing to this thread. I'm transitioning from all running to triathlon and am finding TrainerRoad to be exactly what I need as I begin my bike workouts. If not for TrainerRoad, specifically the 6-week plans, I would have no idea what to do other than just ride. This is giving me the structure I need as I try to build a base on the bike. Great work to everyone involved in the product. |

Regular 109 Denton TX. | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Another thumbs up for the customer service as well. I had done the 8Min test. When I was done, I realized I had not selected the trainer brand I use for the power source. Sent an email to see if it was possible to get my FTP. I received a reply within 2 hrs, and later in the evening when I sent my MPH's for the test, Reid had my power numbers to me within minutes. Looking forward to my workout tonight!!! |

Was wondering if anyone had used this or a similar trainer and how it worked with TrainerRoad? Or should I just spend some money and get a Kinetic Road Machine |

Master 1799 Houston | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad MattAune - 2011-12-21 6:56 AM Been using TrainerRoad for almost 2 months now, mostly just picking a random 1 hour workout and hammering. Last night I finally did the 20 minute test, holy crap that was hard. I have never sweat that much in my life, I laughed out loud when the instructions for the workout asked "Did you bring a bucket?", so true. After the test TrainerRoad suggested a FTP of 259, and a LTHR or 134. Is it normal to have such a low LTHR on the bike? Even during the last 5-7 minutes of the 20 minute interval my heart rate barely got over 150. My running heart rates seem much higher, on my last timed mile it got to 184. Does this imply that I could have worked harder, because my inability to gracefully walk up the stairs makes me think that's not the case. TrainerRoad is by far the best money I have spent on the sport. I used to struggle to stay on the trainer for 30 minutes before getting bored and quitting. Now a 60 minute workout is over before I know it. To the bolded... Yes. Your heart rate is not generally going to get as high on the bike as it does on the run. There are threads dedicated to this, but pretty much all new bikers ask the same question. |

I suspect that while the numbers may not be 100% accurate as long as they are consistent and I can see improvements etc it is worth doing. Of course if you just want encoruagement to get a new one.... go get it! |

I have a Blackburn Trackstand Fluid which is about 6 years old. Was wondering if anyone had used this or a similar trainer and how it worked with TrainerRoad? Or should I just spend some money and get a Kinetic Road Machine I have a blackburn tech fluid and while it might not be the best trainer I'm able to get what feels like consistent power numbers out of TR. I suspect that while the numbers may not be 100% accurate as long as they are consistent and I can see improvements etc it is worth doing. Of course if you just want encoruagement to get a new one.... go get it! They have a pretty long list of trainers to choose from. If you have any documentation from the trainer, that shows it's power curve, they can take that and build a profile. The power curve would show MPH on the X (horizontal) axis, and Watts on the Y (Vertical) axis. That's basically all the program does to convert speed to watts. And yes, if you choose some random trainer on the list, and ride yours, the numbers will be suspect if you try to compare them to someone else, but if you do the 20 minute test, it will set your FTP, and scale workouts off that. So your exertion levels will still be appropriate, and you'll be able to measure improvements. Any changes to the system, like getting a new trainer, would mean you'd need to re-do the assessment. I would also recommend keeping the same tire pressure, and number of turns on the trainer tension the same through out. Bike tire material can also affect it. And tire circumference; that's a BIG one. Again, if you don't have it correct, it will just shift things; but if you change it, you'll appear to making more (or less) power for the same real power coming from your legs. Sorry to geek out, my inner engineer is running rampant... |

Elite 6387 | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad So I'm trying new work outs. Did "Stewart" today... I don't even know him, but I don't like him. As soon as I started the first cadence step I knew Korn was going to have to get me through this one. By the last cadence step, on the last set, I was falling apart... I was trying my hardest to keep going... I had nothing left... "Freak on the leash" was playing... I had to step up to the sprint... he started talking in tongues... then screamed... GO!!! The whole cave erupted... I got swept away on a white hot lave flow..... .... uuhhhh... ...that was interesting. Never been there before. Thanks for taking me. |

Veteran 232 Ontario | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Took a week but I finally got the usb stick in the mail on Wednesday. I was afraid it wouldn't work with the Bontrager sensors I had but they paired up right away. Did a free ride on Thursday and then did "Slide" today which was only a 30 minute ride but still kicked my butt. I just used a FTP of 200 and after todays workout that seems pretty close but tomorrow I plan on putting myself through the 20 minutes of pain to get my real numbers |

Veteran 232 Ontario | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad I think I've developed an addiction to this. I actually look forward to trainer rides now I did the 20 minutes test yesterday morning. Went out too hard in the high cadence drills and the five minute drill and then I SUFFERED during the test. Lucky I got a second wind halfway through and was able to keep the pace up the whole time. |

Veteran 244 Ohio | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Nate, Just wanted to add my kudos to those above for you app. I started using TR to help organize my bike workouts from what had previously been "get on and pedal" with no goal in mind; this has really helped with this. The one thing I had not expected, and I think may be an ever greater benefit, as eluded to above, is the motivation factor. Using TR has really help motivate me to get on the trainer and to complete my workouts. Thanks! |

NH | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad If I get a Garmin GSC 10 Speed/Cadence Bike Sensor and a Garmin Ant+ stick, do I need a Garmin GPS device (like the 910) or can I get started before the 910 comes? GSC 10, ANT+ stick, and a computer is all you need. I also use a Garmin HRM since traineroad can use that data as well. You are going to wind up with 2 ANT+ sticks though because the 910 is supposed to come with one. |

The s/w uses the ant stix to collect data streams from ant+ devices. It does not communicate with the garmin gps unit, nor does it interfere with it. |

I wanted to let you guys know that we're thinking about having a 7 day free trial period before you have to insert your credit card. That way people can see if their hardware workouts and what it's all about. We just want to make sure we reduce fraud, buuuttt...the more I deal with the sort of people that use our software the more I think they are the Type A driven people. Not the sort of people that I would be worried about committing fraud. Oh, and did you guys see Jorge put up a training plan? http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/plans He still needs to add some text but the main structure is up. |

Expert 913 Lost in the Evergreens | Subject: RE: TrainerRoad Kudo's to Nate and CoachJorgeM for a fine job of collaboration with the 6week training plan. I took the 20mp test Monday night, and plan to continue with the plan tonight. TR provides excellent visual feedback during the test. Its very common to hit the first quarter hard and fade before the end of the twenty. The visual feedback that TR provided helped to hold to the 20mp target value and rally as need until the end of the test. When the end is in sight, it's time to go deep into the cave for a strong final effort. |

Thanks, Chris Ya, I didn't know you could do this. I just use my Garmin to log. Hopefully we will get this going. Nate, a 7 day trial would be more than reasonable. It looks a little intimidating, but after I used it I loved it. Obviously, asking $10 to give it a shot for a month is not asking much either with all the good feed back. But a short trial is even better customer service. |
