Thanks everyone for the confirmation.  Out of curiosity, is anyone using this with a 1-up trainer?

Oh, and thanks for taking it easy on me for the redundant questions - I just read the entire thread and see my questions had been asked and answered a few times!

I have a 1up in the closet that I'm supposed to test with. I was waiting until we get a motor. I could run some test against my power tap though and publish the data for you if that would help.

No need to do it on my account, I was just curious.  I'm in for sure - as soon as Amazon delivers the Ant+ stick I'm signing up.  How can I not join with this level of customer support?  After slogging through this thread I'm fully confident that everything will either work great or if not, you'll make it so asap.

So glad the finance committee nixed the computrainer.  Now maybe I can talk her into the new bike with all the money we're saving!

Thanks for all the great info, feedback, etc.  Armed with all this info, I cannot wait for my ANT+ stick to arrive and get this going!  Just a few more days...

You should tell the finance committee that now you'll be home more and safer (less time on the roads). Least she could do is get you a nice bike...

Wow, I don't know how I missed this.  I plan to give it a try tonight or tomorrow morning.

In my study which houses my trainer, I have a desktop with two monitors.  Can the size TrainerRoad screens be increased or split onto two screens?  The bigger the better so I don't have to change my regular configuration and move my trainer to the middle of the room.

Thanks guys We try really hard. Just to let everyone know Jorge added a training plan. It's called "Increase 20 minute power" and is on the bottom of this page: http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/plansIt's free for all members.

Nate, can the plan be downloaded to any calendar type application or do I just need to print it and tape it to the wall to figure out what ride to do when?

Print and tape

We're going to do a scheduling system. When we get that going we'll do some calendar export.

Loaded this last night and did my first workout.  For the uninitiated data/power geeks - wow!

My only question is about the smoothing of the data.  I know there was talk on here about that, and even though my cadence would stay within a range of 89-90 during intervals the power was all over the place.  Not sure if that's due to the trainer/wheel pressure or me, but gives me something to work towards I guess.  I really enjoyed seeing the graphs and feedback.  It definitely keeps me honest during the interval.

I plan on adding some 3 and 5 second smoothing to power data, just haven't gotten around to it yet .

I think it does help to concentrate on riding smooth though with the instant data.

If you cadence is that consistant, you shouldn't see that big of swings in your power.  You might try checking the gap on your wheel speed senor (assuming you are using the GSC-10), I think I read somewhere that having the wheel sensor too close or too far away can give some wild swings in the power data.

For comparission, you can look me up (same user name) on the TrainerRoad web site.  The Gayley ride I was trying to hold my cadence steady on the intervals.

Good point Buck.

If your power looks like this:
http://support.trainerroad.com/entries/20668756-why-do-i-get-speed-...

Then it's the magnet.

If by all over the place you mean it goes 200 210, 195, 205, 210, 205 then that's normal even if you feel like you have the exact same cadence.

Just to jump in.  Nate, when you say "normal", do you mean that even with a super smooth pedal stroke it will look like that? Or is this normal for most us and our pedaling still needs work?

Well, it matters how hard the interval is. The harder the interval, the more your going to fluctuate. Or, if it's a really easy recovery you fluctuate a lot too.

As long as you're keeping the bar pretty green I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't have any hard data that shows if you go 200, 201, 200, 202 you're going to be more efficient than if you go 200, 195, 205, 200, 207.

To me, the first one makes me think it would be better for a triathlete to train that way. BUT... that doesn't mean it's true .

The more important part is putting out lots of power and getting through those intervals. I wouldn't lose any sleep about your power being too crazy (as long as that bar is green).

I hope that answers the question. Pretty much, get fairly smooth, do those intervals and workout consistently. Boom, you'll be fast!

Thanks Nate.  I'm more the 200, 205, 220, 195, etc type.  Not worried about it, just wondering.  Reviewing the cadence more closely, mine fluctuates more than I thought, so there's some work to do to keep it steady.  That has to be a good thing.  Thanks for this program and this level of support.

The more you train the better you will be at putting out consistant power.  I've been working at it for about 4 weeks since I started using TR and can see in real time graphically what i'm putting out.  But when I go deep in the cave I tend to go hard and lose the finesse of staying right on the button.  I don't really like the idea of going to the top of the power curve I feel 'desperate' to hold power and just drop the hammer.  It's not what I'm going to do on race day.  I'm envious of the guys whose power curves are flat. Mine jiggle up down any way but loose.

I loaded it last night and did the 20 min test this morning.  Not sure if I should be pleased or not, but now I have a number to increase.  Must get FTP higher and lose weight. Where is there somewhere I can look to see FTP\KG = bike splits in a IM?

Last year for IM training I just got on a rode a little some hard some not so hard.  I had a good split for my first IM, but maybe this year I can do one better.  I love that you can pick a plan based on what riding you want and hit the trainer.  I plan on trying to hit some of the 3 hr work outs early on the weekends to free up time with my kids.

Has anyone successfully downloaded a workout file from TR and upload it into your BT log?  I attempted earlier, but no luck.

Thanks,

Chris

I talked to BT and Nate and BT made some changes.

I was able to upload a tcx I downloaded from TR a while back today.

BT is not importing power data yet, but you can get the basics of how long/far your ride was.
