Pre-race routine:

Woke up ate a bowl of Go Lean crunch and sipped on some G2. Got to the race a little early and sat in my car to stay warm. I saw Mark(M.A.Burghart) walk by so I headed in and hung out with him, his girlfriend, and his dog Max.
Event warmup:

They had a lady on stage doing some warmup exercises and we followed along for a bit. We watched the 5k runners start and hit the bathroom about 20 minutes before our start. Drank some Gatorade Prime and heaed to the very narrow starting area and we were only able to move our way up to about 3/4 the way back.

Comments:

This was supposed to be a tune up of sorts for the Kansas City MArathon in three weeks. Planned on running approx 8 min miles. Mark and I ended up with the bottleneck start and narrow running lanes, having to run in the grass off the course for the first mile to mile and a half to pass people. Ended up coming out a little faster to get around the slower people, and felt pretty good. At that point I threw my plan out and just went off of how I felt.

Overall, I thought I ran a pretty good race. This was my first 15k, so I had no idea how to pace it.
What would you do differently?:

In hindsight, I probably should have stuck with my gameplan, but it was perfect weather and once that gun goes off, I have a hard time holding back to anything less than 100%.
Post race
Warm down:

Finished on the field(kind of) of Livestrong Park. Got my finisher pint glass. They were offering some light massage, so I took adavntage of that. Met up with Reece(Reecealan)and Mark and chatted with them about the run and the upcoming KC Marathon/half marathon, that we are all doing in three weeks, for a while before heading home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bottleneck start and narrow running lanes(busy streets) was a little unexpected, other than that, I thought I ran pretty well.

Event comments:

First year for this and you could tell. The volunteers were great(especially Reece's kids), but there was hardly anything to eat or drink at the finish except for a bottle of water. They ran out of bagels and oranges(probably the 5k folks) I will probably do this again next year, as this distance is unique and it is only about 5 minutes from my house.

Nice job out there Jon.  Yeah, they were a little light on the refreshments.  Local restaurants were O.K. with it though!  See you in three weeks, good luck with your last 3 weeks of training.

You as well.  I think its great your kids like coming to your races to volunteer.  Hopefully when mine gets a little older she will do the same.
