Pre-race routine:

Starbucks and Clif Bar, picked up Jeff for drive to McKinney. Didn't have to leave until 7:00 due to later Sprint start.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 13m 45s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

started drafting Frank and Jeff but I veered off to left out of the pack, tried to veer back toward the pack but ended up staying off to left of course the whole time, coming back was into the sun so it was difficult to see where the exit was. Wetsuit helped my time a bunch but navgation weakness added a lot more distance than I needed to go.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn to sight and navigate better
Transition 1
  • 02m 45s
Comments:

First time in wetsuit in race so I felt I was a little slower then I should be especially getting off ankles. First time with pedals pre-clipped so I was pretty happy getting out of T1 other then wetsuit.
Bike
  • 33m 19s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.61 mile/hr
Comments:

First time starting with shoes preclipped. got passed the early hills before trying to get shoes on, struggled a little with this and pulled strap out of grommed on left shoe. Eventually gave up and left left strap out of shoe. As usual was passed by several TT bikes starting up the hills, got my cadence up then I was OK, hills and wind made me think my time would be horrible but I made up for bad times on down hill/wind side of loop.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

See note below, I think my T2 was really faster but this time was estimated by time keeper.

Flying dismount went great but lost a shoe running bike over a curb. One of the marshalls threw it to me while I was still running bike and caught it in stride, maybe another event should be added to triathlon?

Ran to wrong rack but it was just one rack over so no big deal.

Still not happy with time getting my running shoes on
What would you do differently?:

rehearse entering transitions to make sure I have the right rack down. Might want to try other running shoes with EZ laces.
Run
  • 20m 52s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried to take it easy up initial hills so I didn't spike HR, once course flattened out started picking up pace and passing runners one at a time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, think I ran this perfectly for my level of fitness.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

limited athletic ability, poor swimming skills, poor cycling hills skills.

Event comments:

Great venue, course was not confusing at all, lots of volunteers, one of the better races I have been at.

Started Garmin late and left it running into T2 so did not have accurate data. Ave HR was 151, max 159

Course: two loops of rectangle course. First half of course was uphill, most of it into the wind. Nice smooth concrete surface, not too many bad holes.

Overall: 10/251
Performance: Good
I started Garmin a tad late but had 21:24 time at 3.08 mi. Initial results had a missing T2 time so I think they may have estimated T2 and run time as my T2 should have been pretty fast. Ave HR 159, Max 169, splits were 7:17, 6:58, 6:42, 5:35 pace on last part.
Course: Out and back seemed like uphill all the way to the turn, steeps out of transition and entry and exit to tunnels under roads.
