I was planning on the REV3 Cedar Point, but after reading a lot of reviews here on BT and watching videos on YouTube of both races, I am 95% sure I'll be lining up with you all on race day! This will be my 2nd IM (I did IM CdA this year). I think the hills on that course are probably pretty comparable to this one!). I also live about 2 hours away (near Cincinnati), so lots of opportunity to practice the course. Does this one ever sell out?

Kris

Kris,

General entry does sell out. I'm pretty sure it sold out in March this year. However, I don't think foundation slots ever did sell out.

Question for those folks who live near Louisville - is there a place to camp near race central? I've done google searches but can't find anything. All I need is electric hook up and I don't care if it's a county park or a private RV park or anything else - just a place to park my camper and be close to the acitvity. Any help would be appreciated.

I emailed them earlier today to see how much time I had left before this event sells out and I got the same exact response...I guess they get tons of questions asking how many spots are still open! Nice to know I still have a little time before it sells out!!

Since I've new to the IM distance, when do we find out our bib number? I assume its not until much later when have sold out.

Picked up a Cervelo P1 for this race and have started mapping out my training races. It still shocks me to think of an Olympic distance as a "training" race!

Ironman will post bib #s about 3 weeks before race day.

FIRST-TIMERS: This is an excellent course for your first IM. It was my first this year and you MUST go to www.iamtri.com and sign up with the louisville 2012 group and ride one of the training rides. Bob does a fantastic job of setting these up and if I hadn't attended one of them I would have never finished this race. The finish line is awesome. Have fun!

Why thanks for that tip and the encouragement. I'm sitting on the IM fence....what year should I do a full?....which would be best for the first one?..... So I'm lurking on this thread and the IMWI one, trying to glean as much info as possible. Appreciate everyone's input and helpfulness.

DO IT!!! DO IT!!! DO IT!!!

I did my first, and what I swore would be my ONLY IM EVER, this summer at Coeur d'Alene. I absolutely LOVED IT. I'll admit, the training really started to wear on me towards the end, but race day was the most fantastic thing ever!!! I'm not looking to conquer IM Louisville in 2012. Come join us!

This will be my first IM. I live here in Louisville so I had the opportunity to ride most of the bike course this past year and had some good friends that participated in the IMTRI rides and they swore by them.  I fully intend on riding with the group as part of my training this year even though I can ride the course anytime.

The bike course is a bear in some places and not so bad in others. From the people I know who have done this race and ridden the course, the more hill work you do, the better off you'll be.  The run course is very flat.....but at the 1/2 way point you are just feet from the finish shoot when you have to turn around and do the loop again. Not so sure I like that kind of a teaser.

I'm in NKY near Cincy, but can make the trip over to ride the course a few times pre-race day. Also, lots of opps to train on the hills, unlike my CdA training this year, which was done all in FLAT Dallas. BRUTAL!

x2.  The iamtri group ride & run opportunities are very valuable!  Again, Bob (& his group) are very organized and the training days are well supported with aid stations and SAG support.

To those questioning current at Louisville...

I did it this year with a time of roughly 1:10

2 weeks later I did rev3 CP full which had no current and included some running in water (beach start x2 due to loops) and I posted a 1:14.

Obviously I was trained identically and if anything I was a little worn down.

My point being, I don't think IMKY had much, if any, of a current that changed times - or at least mine.  Both I considered to be "good, but not great" swims for me.

Good to know - I had several friends come up here from Texas to do this race in 2010, and they all said they would do it again because they loved the course so much. They also said the "current" was a non-issue.

Well I am officially in. I was selected to do the Norseman Xtreme race however when I started to do the math on how much it was going to cost me, it would have ended up costing a bit more than 20 Ironman Louisville entries.  Since there is no money tree growing in my front yard, I am going to be at the starting line in Louisville in August. This will be my third start at IMLOU and 7th Ironman.

Yeah debating between this race and REV3 Ceadar Point, if anyone can give me some + and - from each race that would be greatly appreciated.
