Sunny
Total Time = 1h 20m 45s
Overall Rank = 7/136
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/13
Event warmup:

Short run on the first part of the course and a couple hundred yards in the water.
Swim
  • 10m 28s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got a clean break at the start and went hard for about 30-40 strokes. Glanced to my right and saw a few guys behind me and glanced to my left to see the same. Got to the first turn buoy and settled into a good rhythm. Didn't look back to see if there was anyone close but I just focused on trying to stay on course since I was in the lead and had no one to follow and keeping my turnover very high. Sighting was pretty easy except for the third leg into the sun but I kept on a good line and could see the buoys.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Was first out of the water and had the fastest swim split in the race.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Long run to the transition area. Otherwise uneventful. Heard the announcer say my name as the first out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

11/136 OA.
2/13 AG.
Bike
  • 46m 29s
  • 16 miles
  • 20.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Ok bike. 2 guys passed me pretty early, like by mile 2. Then another guy at mile 5, and then 2 more at about mile 11. I checked out mentally a couple times I think. I find it hard to get into a solid rhythm on courses like this. It's a bit faster than when I did this race 2 yrs ago.
What would you do differently?:

Ride harder!
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

This was fair. Just didn't move fast enough. Had to readjust left shoe as the tongue was all pushed down when I put my foot in it.
What would you do differently?:

Get a move on.
Run
  • 21m 2s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Got going fairly well. One guy got by me in my shitty transition. Started out just behind him. We were slowly reeling in another guy and then some guy flies by us. Continued up the hill, and then got to work. I caught the guy in front of me, but he hung tight, and then we both caught the next guy and dropped him. He gapped me on the downhill and I couldn't catch back up in the last few stretches.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. 90 seconds faster than the last time I did the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, ate some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much. Raced last weekend and never raced back-to-back before. Good end of season race. Got 1st AG award as the guy who got 2nd overall was my age group.

Event comments:

Good race. I like the location. Honest course.
