So let me get the scoring right. If I do an outdoor ride, at 31 degrees with no wind does the point factor equal 1.5?

My real questions is at 31 degrees do you get a point for being on the bike and .5 points for being at 30-31?

I don't want to cheat

Bikergerb - 2011-10-31 1:34 PM So let me get the scoring right. If I do an outdoor ride, at 31 degrees with no wind does the point factor equal 1.5?

Yes - biking is the only way to get points over 35 (eta correction of temperature maximum) degrees I believe because with biking under 40 is worth 1 point minimum and then you add for moisture and wind.

There should be a calculator on page 2 of the spreadsheet where you can enter time and everything to get your total points.

Fun starts tomorrow morning but I won't be scoring any points for a week by the looks of the weather forecast!

I somewhat changed the spreadsheet to make the calculation part easier. Hopefully it works for people.

My understanding (and the way I made the calculation) is that if you're under 40 F on a bike then you start with 1 point and add other stuff to it, like Bikergerb did (bike, no wind, 31 F = 1.5 points). Could be wrong, though.

I know I asked this before but never got an answer...do other outdoor activities count? Or are we sticking to run and bike?

Regardless, I'm going point-less until at least this weekend, unless I wake up early on Wednesday to hit up the snow shower we're supposed to get. This challenge is putting horrible ideas into my head!

From the looks of things, I will be having some truely crappy weather Tuesday, 50's and sunny, then it starts to get cold and wet. Once again it looks like I am off to a slow start, hopefully it gets cold fast.

Yes you do.

Bike always earns you 1 extra point more than running because of the wind chill factor that biking has compared to running.

So with bike you get 1 point minimum as long as it is below 40 and above 36.  35 and below you add the temp factor to bike factor and with running you start getting points at 35 or below.  Don't forget wind and precipitation as well.

Ask more questions - once the crap hits you will get the idea

So if we are on the trainer outside, we don't get the 1 point for biking, but we would still get the appropriate temperature points for under 35?

First points on the board for me and, as I expected, the 28mph+ winds we had last week have dropped to 9mph but the temperature has decided to stay in double digits .  It seems that even rain is against me as it stopped just before I woke up.

So does the temp have to be below 40 to get point on a ride (or 35 for a run)? What if you meet the precip or wind requirements?

This is not "my challenge" and I don't want to offend anyone but bike mileage must be done while moving on the bike unless others chime in feeling differently.  I understand injuries and all that make riding for some an impossibility but it would be like setting a treadmill up in the garage and opening the door IMHO.

I am open to discussion on this and don't want to be a mean challenge ogre by any means.

Also - I don't know if I answered but it does involve other sports - cross country skiing/snowshoeing - any physical activity outside - those are scored equal to running.  Biking on the road/trail is the only way to earn an additional 1 point.

To those experiencing crappy weather already - be safe and enjoy.  I won't be tallying until next week if forecast holds!

Oh, fine. Be that way.

Can you believe it's going to be 73 on November 1??? In Central Kansas?? Wow.

I'll still be out there, enjoying that warm, sunny, still day.

I got some points, meager though they were, this morning. Just made the cut off with 34 degrees, but a 15-20 mph wind came in handy. Suppose to be getting colder as we go into the end of the week.

As to everything else, I don't think you should get points for a treadmill in an open garage, but if you move it into the front yard, and post some pics of you on it, I might consider those valid points.

That's a good question since the answer will determine whether I've actually scored any points yet or not.

Just missed out on points this morning as the temp was 37. Looks like we could have some cooler mornings this week.

That's a shame. Guess I'll have to wait a bit longer before getting any points on the board.

First factor is Temp.  If you don't qualify temp wise then it is 0 points for the day.

Well, just wait until December when in Kansas it will be 10 degrees and 40-50 mph winds!

Did I just wish for crappy weather??? {face palm}

What a dilemma. Long run scheduled for tomorrow but morning temp is supposed to be 40. I could move it to Thursday morning when the temp is supposed to be 30.

Ok, I know that is crazy.

Hey there and welcome! Good to have another crappy weather challenge member doing an ultra this winter. Looking forward to the race report for yours. This is the first I've heard of it. Is it in northern Wisconsin?
