Comments: Started to have stomach cramps around mile 6 but kept on. Really had bad calf cramps at mile 12. Just didn't feel as strong today as I have in past races. Really felt like I have neglected my long runs lately and it showed today. What would you do differently?: More long distance runs prior to the race. Better preparation next time. Also need to dial in my race nutrition better so I am not dealing with cramps. Post race
Warm down: Really felt pretty crappy and spent after the race. Ended up getting gatorade, water and a bannana and sitting down on the street curb to stretch a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Definetly conditioning and race nutrition. Event comments: Really overall a great event. I would definetly return to Des Moines to do it again next year. Will definetly try to be in better shape for it next year though. Have been doing a lot of swim and bike training in the last 2 months and have fallen off on my long runs, something I plan on fixing soon in preparation for half ironman next summer! Light breakfast consisting of bagel with peanut butter and bannana and one cup of coffee.
No pre-race warm up. Warmed up the first couple miles of the race.
