Subject: Cervelo P1 or Felt S22?

I'm new to the sport coming from a running background and have been researching bikes.  I'm 80% decided to go with a tri bike as opposed to a road bike.  I could be persuaded, but my focus is definitely going to be triathlons with no interest in doing group rides.  I have been scouring ebay and craigslist, and the classifieds here and on slowtwitch and haven't found anything perfect in my size (54) just yet.  If I were to go new, I'm being drawn to the 2011 Cervelo P1 or the Felt S22.  Both have MSRP of $1700 which means I could likely get it for less than that.  Both bikes look great.  Any strong feelings here either way on these two "entry level" bikes?

Edit - I've also noticed the inexpensive Motobecane bikes at bikesdirect.com but none of my LBS shops carry those.  I'd prefer to at least go with a brand that is carried by one of the 3 LBS in my area.

Be sure to include Quintana Roo's new Kilo C in your survey. It is the only sub $2000 all carbon fiber bike with a nice cockpit, very nice wheels and a great component group with super nice shifters- my favorite. $1799 MSRP at Quintana Roo dealers everywhere. If you follow the link in my signature line you'll see a complete review.

Nice looking bike.  Does your shop carry that bike.  I don't believe any of the 3 LBS's in my area carry QR although I had been looking at them as well.

Nytro has been selling new 2011 Cannondale Slice 5's for $1600 shipped:

http://www.nytro.com/index.cfm/product/?ProductID=5876

All carbon bike with 105 groupset (brakes are Tektro, but I think those appear on stock P2s as well?).

If you have an LBS who stocks these, you might be able to get them to match or at least come down on their price with mention of this sale.

I just went through the same thing two months ago. My LBS sells both Cervelo and Felt and since baby#2 is on the way my Tri bike budget was small. This lead me to chose between the P1 and S22.I ended up with the P1 and love it. Some things I really liked the P1 is that it came with a great group...mostly Ultegra with DA shifters. Felt uses their own brand parts (to save money) and work well but just not as good as the Shimano group.Even a bigger factor for me was the sizes the bikes came in. Although very similar geo the Cervelo comes in odds sizes and the Felt in even sizes. I am on th short side and could have went either a 50 or 52cm. Cervelo's 51cm fit me well since it was in the middle of the road.

They're two completely different bikes -- you need to figure out which one is for you and not go by looks or, in this case since they're about the same, price point. I was getting fitted for bikes a couple years ago (didn't buy because of the move overseas) and my friend at the LBS said I would not do well on a Cervelo because of my lack of flexibility, so he suggested another Felt or a Kuota, both of which are less aggressive. I've argued the merits of his advice with many people but I can tell you that after riding both a couple times, he was right on. Go to the LBS and talk to them about fit and aggressiveness and bike geometry and your comfort level.

Just spoke with them to inquire about shipping.  Here is a direct quote:

"Nytro is having a special.  No tax and No Shipping fees."

This is looking like this may be the one...
