How many of you have training shoes and a different pair for racing. When I was running 25 years ago we all used to have a pair of racing shoes.

I still have a pair of racing shoes.  I train in a normal running shoe that weighs about 14 grams.  My race shoe is 4.1 grams.  I've had those race shoes for a couple years and only have a couple hundred miles on them.

Depends on the distance.  I have lightweight shoes I race and train in for 10K or less and have more structured shoes for longer distances.  Since I rotate shoes, it works out to having 4 pairs in rotation.

I have a pair of racing shoes, two pair of training shoes, and a pair of trail running shoes.... rotating between the two pairs of training shoes to keep them fresh...

The racing shoes are very light and not very durable...

One pair of racers (but those are getting old and I need to replace), one new pair of trainers, and a couple of old pair of trainers for everyday wear.

I had actually the same question... well kind of. If i get tri specific race shoes (still intend to use my more supportive shoes for my HIM) how much should I run in them prior to the 10K and under races to "break them in"? It sounds like the some of you are saying that the race shoes last a while if you are just racing in them is that the case?

i have a decently light pair of training shoes, like them better for the hilly runs i do. i have a pair of really light flats ill use for my races, went to the store and asked for the lightest they had. i also have an awesome pair of converse shoes to chill in!

I know this is not recommended, but I have just one pair of running shoes. I train in these and race in them as well. These are getting on their last legs, so I think I might be getting some new ones soon, and use these to wear to school for teaching. (Hell I am on my feet all day, why not have a comfortable pair of shoes to wear)

HA!  I have 6 different pairs of shoes used for training and racing. Have another 5 or 6 pair still in the boxes.

I suffer from shoe issues ...

Certainly, I have a different pair (or pairs) of shoes for racing. Actually, the ones I've worn this year are some old Nike lightweight trainers that I took to a belt sander and modified the sole/midsole (now almost zero drop, but still barely wide enough in the forefoot.Today, though, I wore my Altra Instinct training shoes for the trail 10K. Worked great, though I could have gotten away with a bit less shoe.

i used to wear my old running shoes for work too but then I went to a running injury course for work and was enlightened  on the fact that if they arent good enough to run in anymore, then I probably shouldnt spend 8+ hours a day in them either.  My feet are much happier now that I have accepted that its OK to have work sneakers ( much cheaper than my running shoes) and recycle my old running shoes.   You would think its common sense for someone in the medical field but some of us are just subborn.

I do the same thing. Personally I perfer to train as close to race conditions as possible. So I wear the same shoes, outfit, swim gear, ect when I train as I do when I race. I like the feeling of my comfortable shoes as I begin the run. Its like having an old friend with me, something I'm comfortable and familar with.

Sounds like me. I have 4-5 pairs I rotate for training, another few pairs I just use for racing, and several new pairs still in boxes I bought on clearance.

It's exceedingly rare I ever train in my racing shoes or race in my training shoes.
