Pre-race routine:

Drink a bottle of water on way to shuttle/start line. Was planning on eating a little something at the start, but didn't find the breakfast stuff. Timed my bathroom break perfectly and dropped my bag off and lined up towards the back half of the pack.
Event warmup:

Stretched and walked around a bit.

Comments:

I made good course management choices which is VERY important on a road this windy.
What would you do differently?:

train hills more
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

hill training
stomach was not feeling 100% for part of the race.

Event comments:

Saw a sheriff push a racer. He was trying to make him stay on the shoulder instead of in the lane that was closed for the race. Threatened to arrest him.
Scrambled egg tortillas at the finish line were great.

Thanks Bryan!  I did some hill training at the gym, pushing 10+ % inclines, but not often enough and not for any of my longer runs.  Painful lesson, but proud to have this one under my belt.
