Death sentence inspires triathlete
Jon Blais hopes to finish Hawaii Ironman and raise ALS awareness

Jon Blais, 34, has been doing triathlons for 20 years and has competed in 200+ races, 20 of them half-Ironman distance races. This year's Hawaii Ironman will be his first full Ironman, and his last race.

This past winter, while finishing up his master's in education, Jon was diagnosed with ALS -- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis -- or more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The life expectancy of someone diagnosed with ALS averages three to five years.

Yeah, it is sad. But also very uplifting. He's been handed a death sentence, but look what he's doing with it. He had a quote in the article: "Get busy living, or get busy dying." I think that pretty much sums it up.Thanks for posting this...

I think this man's reaction to his disease is great.

Not to be a downer or anything, but we all suffer under a death sentence, it's just that we're not sure when our numbers will come up. I know we don't like to think of it, but there it is.... No point acting like we'll live forever.
