People, people, people. There are a few things I should clarify.

1. The SO really isn't a romantic kinda gal. Mushy shit would make her more suspicious.
2. She loves coming to triathlons, her chance to check everyone else out, so we would still be together.
3. It is only the morning, we can do other stuff later
4. We are of the same opinion regarding the whole process.

I think we all know whats going to happen. I'll post the race report.

Ok- so there will be plenty of chances in your future to do tri's.  Your wedding day is only one day- so make it special.  If I were you I would skip the tri, regardless if your finance has fun at them or not and dedicate the day to just the 2 of you and savor the moment.

As far as the day goes, neither of us really gives a shit, its just something we think we should do
for the little bastard, well at this stage he/she could be.

this just makes me so sad.

Shaun, I think we've responded the way we have beacuse you yourself said you had "niggling questions" and expressed some doubt. I mean, if you were really sure, it seems like you would have posted something with a tag line like: I'm getting marreid and doing an Oly! And gone on to describe the fun weekend of nuptiuals and racing ahead. In that context, I bet most of us would have responed in a positive way.

I can't see why you think you have to get married. If you and your SO are committed, and cool with not being married, your child will be too. Why bow to a convention that you clearly don't believe in, and/or are not ready for?

What do you think your SO would say if she read all the reponses you got to this thread? That would be the ultimate litmus test.

From a guy who has been married twice two comments. On the tri front - She will never forget - NEVER EVER - trust me I am livng that one out. Secondly marriage is something to be entered into carefully. There are too many lives and too much at stake to let the divorce bug screw you all over. Marmadaddy had the right idea - even if she doesn't like mushy stuff. My life is the easiest when I can keep all the females in my house off gaurd (I have a wife and TWO teenage girls - really helps with my training time).

I've been reading this thread for two days, and it still cracks me up. I thought Downunderman was kidding when he wrote it...now it's even funnier. This is a classic.

I, for one, would love to see some Aussie responses to this. Could be a good example of different social mindsets.

What? Do you think all Aussies refer to their unborn children as "Little Bastards"

I doubt it!
