Subject: Friggin' Cox Cable DVR!...*%$@#

I had to leave work early to meet the local Cable guy at my house. Sometime last night my Cox Cable DVR box went out. For those of you who don't know what a DVR is (digital video recorder) kind of like a TiVo. Anyway, nothing better to do but rant here why I wait for he/she to show up.

Over the past 4-5 months I've been recording every Triathlon televised by OLN and other channels. I've got about 7 triathlons recorded that I haven't seen, several national champion races and the latest Ironman (I forgot which one, was on just a week ago). Anyway, they're telling me over the phone the box is bad and they're sending a rep out to either fix or replace it. If they replace it, ALL is lost. All of the movies I've recorded, all of the episodes of ROME that I haven't seen yet, and most importantly, ALL of the triathlons!!! I was saving these to watch for special occasions when I needed the motivation. If I lose them for good I'm going to crack...

When I called the Cox tech people the lady over the phone suggested that if I really wanted the shows I've taped then I should contact OLN and have them send me copies. I almost crawled through the phone. How stupid is she? Anyway, I'm just pissed. When the cable guy shows, god help him he better fix this damn thing.

Anyone see the Seinfeld episode when Elaine warned the telephone repair person that he could disappear and never be found, no one would know? Well....I'm just saying...

There's got to be a way to remove the info from the hard drive.  Cox says no, but what do they know.

Any computer hackers here?  Speak up!

Where!!  The DVR is fixed, but not without a fight.

So here's what happened...

The cable guy shows up, hooks up a handheld computer thingy, says it looks like everything's ok.  Well, I tell him it's not.  He pokes a couple of buttons and tells me that the DVR is shot and he has another one in the truck and will replace it free of cost.  But that means I lose all of the stuff I've recorded (see post above).  I tell him that replacement has to be a last resort.  He said there's nothing else he can do.  I ask him if there's anyone he can call that might know more.  He says...."hmmm, maybe" and he calls a supervisor.  The supervisor asks him if he's tried a "Warm Hit".  He tells her no.  He tries it and the DVR clicks on and everything is working, all my shows are saved.  If I hadn't of pushed him to call someone all my stuff would be lost.  Damn him..but I'm happy its fixed.

Thanks for your concern.  I'm done venting.

Isn't it nice to see that your obsession with this sport comes in handy?!? Who ever said being obsessed with tri's is a bad thing? Glad to hear it all worked out for you!
