I've recently started up running again and the outside of my left knee is starting to give me problems. The outside of the knee feels tender kind of like how a bruise feels. Its also warm in that area.
Any ideas as to what's causing this and what I can do to fix it?
I'm using New Balance runners. They're a few years old but have hardly been used if u get my drift. I've only been running twice a week for only about 20 minute sessions at a moderate pace.
Could the fact that in my youth I used to run with ankle weghts have anything to do with my problem?
This sounds like ITBS (Iliotibial Band Syndrome). The knee needs rest. Running on it will only make it worse. There are exercises you can do to strengthen it, though I found it best to just not do anything for a week or so, other than apply ice, before starting with stretches. Below are some helpful sites. There are plenty others you can find with an internet search. Hope you're running again soon.
