Why, oh why do people do sit-ups and ab workouts on the side next to the pool?!! It cracks me up every time I go to the pool! I don't know about you, but me doing an ab workout in a skin tight outfit is not my idea of a good view for others! Maybe I'm ignorant, but I've always done that in the gym! Unfortunately, it's never the people you WANT to see doing that

LOL LOL LOL
I thought I was the only person to ever witness that.

A guy in a speedo was doing crunches poolside and also STRETCHING. He was doing the seated forward bend with his legs apart, and also on his back with his legs in a "Figure 4" (opposite heel over other knee) stretching out his hips.

It was friggin ugly and funny at the same time. And his *** wasn't facing the wall....

Edit: we can't say *** as in "Jackass" now?

I saw this young guy (18, 19) do a couple of lengths, get out and do some pushups and get back in and do more lengths etc... But I figure he was doing it for the benefit of the little lifeguards.

Ah, the things we do that we live to blush about....

We used to do that when I swam in college. When the coaches weren't around, we did beer relays: everyone does 100, but you get out at the end of each length and chug a beer. Good times.

Just so I get this straight....Is a Hee-hoo the same as a Wahoo?

Why do they do it? It's probably not to gross you out. My ... you know... wild guess is that they want to have stronger abs. More power to them. Seriously.... heavy, out-of-shape people could feel terribly disempowered by comments like this. I'm sure discouraging people who need it the most from exercising wasn't your goal, but it could very well be the effect.

No, really I don't care if it's someone fat or skinny doing the sit-ups. I just find it odd that they do it by the pool because most people do it in the gym. Good, more power to them for the strong abs.

just as long as they point their hee hoos at the wall...

heehoo is a euph for anything unmentionable...its a flexible word. It has to be sung more than spoken.. it mimicks the old bleeps from television. What the HEE hoo are you talking about? Get it?

Not to try and "one up you" but we've got a guy that practices karate poolside after his swim…. The first time I saw this I was mortified but after awhile I got use to it and because he a regularly swimmer we eventually met… seeing him pretending to Mr. Miyagi poolside is a little odd, but because he such a nice guy I overlook it. Now if throws down some “wax on wax off” crap on me then we will talk J

Mr. Miyagi

So to be fair, Jen Victoria (damn you two look alike) never said anything about heavy, out-of-shape people. She could have just meant people in Speedos (although what the heck is wrong with that?).

That's a new one me. Thank Goodness LOL Although we have a few members who hook their legs on the side of the pool and do crunches in the pool. Usually they are members of the deep water class.

That does bring up the other pool NO NO that I see a lot. Worn out Swim suits. Most of the elderly aerobics class need new suits. It is definetly not pleasant to be able to see through them.

If it's your yellow shorts folded into a speedo, then absolutely nothing You'd be invited to do crunches at my poolside anytime!

On a side note, Eric, Mr. Miyagi was at your pool? I would LOVE to see that!! I would have a really hard time not busting out the "wax on wax off" or doing that flamingo kick (you ALL know; the one that won!) to get into the pool for the start of the day.

It's a killer workout. swim, push ups, swim, situps, swim, run start over. You'll be crying for your mommy after just a few sets.

That's what we called them too

And I've gotten busted on the worn out swimsuit thing. My only hope is that it happens overnight. As in, today my swimsuit is worn out, but yesterday it wan't. I swear I check when I rinse it out. But still it happens. YUCK!

I can't get a straight answer from my husband. If I ask him if it's been worn out for a while and he responds "I don't know. I wasn't looking at your backside," my response is "Why the heck weren't you?". If he answers yes, I'm mortified and crawl in a hole for a week And if he answers, "I WAS checking out your butt and your suit was fine yesterday", I just figure he's trying to avoid getting in trouble.

LOL so in other words it's a loose loose situtation.

I've been guilty of it once but I caught it before anyone else really noticed. HOWEVER in my defense I'm not 80 and after 3 years of this my bum isn't down near my knees. LOL

Did these as-well while training water-polo. They were killers, and also shortened the life of your fav. swim suit.  The first guy to the wall and out of the water watched the rest of us suffer. ( I was never the guy watching I was always doing crunches and push-ups and sit-up.)  But the whole team was doing them at the same time, not just one guy in the crowd during public swim exposing his junk to the other swimmers.
