Comments: Smooth start. I noticed the wind picking up before the start so I moved all the way to the east buoy to maximize the wind/current. I was all by myself out there. Most lined up at the west buoy close to shore. Outbound was very smooth and the current pushed me into the center of the course as planned. about 50 meters off the lead at the turnaround. Picked up the pace at the turnaround and turned into the cross/head wind (wind was coming in strong at about a 10 o'clock direction) center of the lake became pretty rough for a lake swim. lots of chop and white capping. It was a bit of a struggle to stay on course and not get blown off. Also, I think it was poor planning that they only had a turnaround and finish buoy. 1.5 miles is a long way to site for a marker. Finished comfortably. What would you do differently?: Not much. perhaps taken a more eastern route right after turnaround so that I would be pushed back into the course in the middle of the lake where the wind was strong. Post race
Warm down: none. Waited around for a little while then put on the cycling gear and went for a ride. What limited your ability to perform faster: the fact that I didn't push very hard. This was for taining only. Event comments: I think the course was a bit short. 1 hour flat is a bit fast for a 5k race with that much wind and chop. Last updated: 2005-11-06 12:00 AM
