Great Confluence 10k - Run

Run
Comments: Best run ever! Shattered my 10k PR by nearly 1 1/2 minutes. Started off by watching the three gazelles ahead of me disappear. For the first mile or so I was with a group of about 5 runners, and I thought they might start edging ahead, but I started to put distance between me and them. Somewhere between 2 and 3 I noticed a runner with a bright yellow vest about 50 yards back. I managed to keep her at that same distance for the rest of the race. Afterward, she thanked me for pulling her along, while I thanked her for pushing me. Looking at my pace, I did go out a bit fast, and mile 4 and 5 killed my shot at going sub-40 today: No mile 1 marker Mile 2 12:45 Mile 3 19:15 Mile 4 26:02 Mile 5 33:00 Finish 40:32 Post race
Event comments: Very well organized, especially since they had to keep track of 4 races at one time. Would definitely do this one again. Super-psyched about my time - my realistic goal was to try to go under 41:30. Sub-40 is in sight! Was also fun to win my age group, even if there were only three of us :). Also really happy to have held off the group of runners behind me at the start, and to have kept my overall postion (4th) behind the gazelles (those guys finished around 35 minutes). Overall Rank = 4/45
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Tried to stay warm. Hung out with Joe (Roxx from BT), checked out the hospital (new building with very cool architecture).
Bus ride to the start - they actually run four races at the same time, with 2 5ks and 2 10ks starting from different locations, but all ending up at the hospital.
