Pre-race routine:

Woke up....ate a couple pieces of toast, drank some tea and waited to go to the race with my family. I wasn't nervous at all. Got to the venue, went to the potty, got some free Starbucks coffee and just walked around until about 5 minutes before the start. We should have moved closer to the start instead of placing ourselves toward the middle, because the ranking was on gun time - so quite a few of the people who placed before me, actually had slower chip times. Live and learn.
Event warmup:

No warmup really. Just walking around with my daughter and her boyfriend.

Comments:

The run felt good. I had two goals for this race. First - no walking, and second - keep the pace at below 12 minute miles. I accomplished both. I kept the pace steady throughout the race. I had a hard time getting around people, and that probably added some distance to the course for me, but oh well. It really wasn't something that couldn't be overcome. The run felt good, and I finished strong. Really had a great time doing this race with my two daughters - and my hubby and son volunteered so it was a great Turkey Day family event.
What would you do differently?:

Get up closer to the start line. I probably could have gone a little faster if I didn't have to fight passing people AND they ranked us off of chip time instead of gun time.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around collected all the free food they had - went to the bathroom and found my family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The crowd of people around me and the difficulty passing.

Event comments:

Had a great time!!! My first road race and I exceeded my race goals. I know I'm slow - and have a way to go in building up my speed - but I've also come a long way, and really feel good about the race.

Also, my rank will probably change as a lot of chip times have not been updated on the site yet.

Great Race!!

What fun family fun...run with your daughters and your husband and son are out there helping. Cool you beat your goals by a lot. What a day for your family and super that you blew by your goals. Watch out for the next race...you'll keep getting better. I'm amazed at how your run times per mile were so close together...you paced well.
