Above times subtract out the 5:45 waiting in line for the portapotty between during mile 7.

I had estimated 3:30 when I registered, but realized a couple weeks ago that I would be faster then that. My goal was 3:10 and my stretch goal was 3:00, so I definitely hit my goal and I'm close enough to the stretch goal to be pleased.

I was really pleased with the first half of the race but then it was like I hit a wall. Since my speed puts me back with the walkers I had a few moments of really considering walking the rest of the distance instead of continuing to try to run the majority of it, but I didn't. However that was the point where we started to get into hills and I did more walking than usual.
What would you do differently?:

I probably went out too fast, although adrenaline and an hour and a half of waiting around will do that to you.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for a good 20 minutes, had half a bagel, changed out of my sneakers and into sandels and then headed for home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The 50 extra pounds on my butt. I'm pretty sure everything else is secondary.

Event comments:

I don't think I actually LIKE long distance running. Maybe it's more fun when you are faster, but for now it was a lot of work and rather than having some kind of runner's high I mostly ache (hips, quads, calfs) and want to nap in front of the tv.

Nice job!

I'm with you on long distances. I'm going to run the country music 1/2 at end of April. Not sure why, but figure it's good for me. I hope I'm any where near as fast as you!

Awesome race and way to hit your goal!! If it's any consulation, I'm in bed watching TV (the sofa wasn't even comfy enough for me after the 2 hr plane ride plus 1 hr drive home!)
You were right though, it was not as "flat" a course as one might think!!
CONGRATS!

Congrats!! That's awesome that you pushed through it when you were tempted to walk! I know exactly what you mean about not really enjoying running long distances. It wasn't until I started following Maffetone's low heart rate training program that I started to enjoy finally enjoy running. It felt like I was taking the lazy way out at first (basically I have to stop when it gets hard) but I'm happy with the results so far, my pace has improved considerably.

WTG GIRL!!!

It's really fun to see somebody streatching their limits one race at a time.  Now you can look back at the time and say to yourself, "I bet I can beat that by 10 min".  And of corse, you will next year.  In fact I wouldn't be surprised if next year you finish in 2:37.  Just a perdiction on my part and a good goal for you to work on!
