Just curious what people thought should be the age limit for a kid of the opposite sex in the gym locker room.

I understand that parents have to take care of a young kid these days but today, I swear this girl was like 14 or so.  She was trying to sort of cover her eyes but dang, that's pretty old.  At first I thought she was a the guy's wife.

My gym has a family locker room to be used by parents with children of the opposite sex. I guess the oldest boy I've seen in the women's locker room is about two, maybe three. Can't really remember any older than that.

A teenage, or even pre-teen, girl is way too old! Heck, even 5 or 6 is too old. I dunno, part of me feels it's more acceptable for the little boys to be in the women's locker room than for the little girls to be in the men's locker room. On either side, I'd probably stop at about age two or three. No matter how you may raise your children or teach them about the things they may see, it's not just for the kids' sake, but also for the sake and comfort of others in the locker room.

I don't think anyone older than 5 should be in opposite gender locker rooms...I was in the locker room with woman and her kid who had to be at least 10. 10 year old boy in a women's locker room? Yeah, that kid's gonna be traumatized

I think at 10 naked chicks of any age= trauma.
Poor things can't wrap their little minds around it yet.

No no no!! Fourteen?!? Are you kidding me?!? I'm a man. Infants are OK. Children who ask questions should be in a same-sex locker room, IMO!! Come on now, do you really want your son inquiring about a woman not her mom, or your daughter inquiring about me!?! I hope not.

at my swim lesson place, they had a 5 yr old age limmit. (it wasnt really a locker room, more of a BID bathroom). i think 5 is really a limmit. esp with girls (not worried about her, but THEM)

My son' s four and I'm debating how much longer I'll bring him in with me right now. When I have a male friend there, too, no problem he can go in the men's locker room. However, in public restrooms? Not a chance. And I'll explain why to any woman who looks offended or uncomfortable and hope she understands. If she doesn't understand that I'm willing to trade her momentary discomfort (and my son is very well-mannered. Well, for a four-year-old) for the assurance that my baby is not going to run into a pervert without me there to protect him, I don't actually care.

I think the age limit should be 80 years old. There is nothing worse than having a 80 yr old man about 350 lbs walking around with no cares in the world.

I'd say 5 or 6 is about it.

Our Y remodeled a few years ago. They have two  family large bathrooms/changing rooms  with showers and room to change that anyone can use that prevents this issue. They have a 5 year old rule...5 and under is okay for opposite sex in lockers room with adults.

In our locker rooms they also have a 18 and over room to change plus they have changing stalls to use in both the general locker room and the over 18 locker room. I go into the over 18 year old section when it is family swim time. I only go in the regular section when I bring my daughters who are 7-11 and we swim together.

Sounds like my Y is pretty well organized for this issue.

At my YMCA the rule is no one under 19 allowed in the adult locker rooms period. There are separate locker rooms for moms&kids and dads&kids.  Kids over the age of 6 are supposed to go to the appropriate gender's room.  There are also 4 "special needs" changing rooms.

It seems like the Y has figured it out.  I guess at gyms like mine (LA Fitness), it's not as common and therefore, doesn't need to be addressed as often.

At our Y, it is two years old. We have three "family" locker rooms, so that helps. I have only once seen some older boys in the women's locker room, and they stood there looking at a little girl changing out of her bathing suit, as soon as she noticed them, the poor thing tried to hide behind the little locker door - all while the boy's moms where having a make-up swap in front of the mirror. This all happened within 5 seconds, any longer and I would of said something - man was I PO'ed.

The age limit at our gym is 3.  We also have family changing rooms that are like small closets.  I think public restrooms is a little different because no one is getting nudie patudie and there is still privacy in the stalls. Although men's urinals aren't very private I guess.  I am as bothered by a poorly behaved 7 yr old girl in the locker room as I am a boy... The benches in the locker room are not for hurdling, fyi...

Bad behavior - don't get me started!  Last Sunday I was in the locker room at the pool and a lady asked me, "Is she ok over there?" and pointed to the sink area.  My daughter was next to me quietly getting dressed but I went over anyway.  There was a 2 year old girl standing on a stool on a wet floor with a blower drier turned on in her hand and a sink with the faucet running right in front of her!  Her sister, in the meantime was running naked at full speed up and down the legnth of the locker room yelling while the mother was taking a shower.  Insane!  (And yes, I turned off the blow dryer and the sink and brought the children over to their mother and suggested that she watch her children better.

Sorry, off  the original topic but I had to vent!

At our club, the age limit is 5 years old. What would a 14 year old girl be doing in the men's locker room?? That is certainly old enough to take care of herself. We have a family locker room at our club where I can take my boy. My son is 8, mildly autistic and I wouldn't feel comofrtable letting him go in the men's locker room alone. But I wouldn't bring him in the women's either. 14?? Weird.

14?  Dang... are you sure?  Could she have had an overactive pituitary on something like that?  I can't imagine not being able to trust your 14-year-old to sit out on the bench for 15 minutes?

I'm with the "public restroom" folks.  That's cool, I'm not hanging out there for the world to see.  But in lockerrooms there needs to be an age limit.  I was at the pool a while back and this guy brought in what looked to be about a 5-year-old and even that had be a bit leery.

My pool has 2 locker rooms for each sex. There is a sign on the "Visitors" locker room that says it is for adults only, while the "Home" locker room is for children. Do the parents pay attention to these signs? No.

This one cracks me up. Trust me, just walk around nude and they won't bring that child back in. Once the parent sees you hanging out with your wang out, they'll never bring their daughter into a changing room again - especially if you sing a little "Garth Brooks - I Got Friends in Low Places" and point to it everytime you hit the chorus line.

oh yeah!
