Subject: Another fundraising question RE: Wal-Mart

Hey all you experienced fundraisers,

I'm going to try and sit outside Wal-Mart to raise money for TNT. I wanted to give the people that donated cute little bags of candy or cookies...What do you think about that? Would that motivate folks for a donation? Any other ideas?

I thought about wearing a TNT tri uniform too, but it might be a little cold for that, and that might turn people off Ha, Ha. Don't know how many people want to see me in a tri uniform

 Thanks!!!!! I really appreciate it!

When I collect change in front of Wal-Mart  I usually weart my TNT t-shirt and have 1-2 other teammates there.  We also set up a little "info" table with brochures, pictures of our patient hero, etc.  and hang a TNT sign on it.  My one friend bought some cheap candy and had it sitting in a fish bowl and if people donated they could grab a piece or two.  You can get creative with it.  Good luck!

One more thing- I would keep what you hand out to them as a result of a donation very simple.  Reason being, from my past experiences with Wal-Mart fundrasiing most people donate their extra change or a buck or 2.  You don't have to put in more than money than you'll make.

Bring a bike trainer if you have one and ride while looking for donations, that way folks will see you are seriouse about it plus it would bring more attention.

Oh my gosh- that's an awesome idea!  Even better, throw some water wings on your arms while you're on the trainer- lol!

Just curious, can anyone fundraise in front of wal-mart or do you need to get some sort of authorization from them?

They usually have a list, and you have to submit a letter or talk to a manager to be put on the list.  It just depends onthe store and what the manager prefers.  It's hard to get on the list though (or at least here it is).  Once the Girl Scouts get their cookies they usually get all the spots!
