Comments:

I'll put rankings in when they get officially posted in a few days.

I ran really well. Kept HR in low Z3, adrenaline just wouldn't let me get into Z2. But I would pick out someone up ahead and slowly reel them in and pass them. Did that all race long. In fact, pass two ladies with the last burst of speed at the end.

To give everyone a good grin. There were several ROTC groups running this race. They all started out shouting cadences and passing everyone. Well, between mile 3 and 4 I passed my first ROTC gang, their flag was not so snappy and they were all walking NOT in step.
In the last mile, I said to a lady as I passed her - let's pass the ROTC! So we ran past the next group. I shouted to them "I've always wanted to outrun the ROTC!" They chased me across the finish line, but I won!!!
What would you do differently?:

I think I could have pushed the pace a bit on the early part and maybe pushed a little harder at the end. I was slowed a bit by figuring out how to work around the walkers and slow groups. Perhaps I was a bit too polite...

I didn't walk except when forced by crowds or going through a couple of the drink stations. Since I figured out how to hold the pace down to keep my HR from flaming out, I just keep jogging along and really irritate those rabbits that sprint and burn out I was a little frustrated that my Timex SDM/HR monitor died because I had planned to used the SDM to help me pace a bit faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Ate and orange. They had run out of water and I was MOP. Very bad.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

crowds. First time I ran with that many people. Also, just experience.

Event comments:

A nice run, but clearly a very local event. We had a hard time finding out where the start and finish were. They were actually a fair distance apart and we parked on the far side of the start so had a LONG walk back to the car after the run. They had already run out of water when I crossed the finish line and I was MOP on this one. Not good.

Awesome job of making a race plan and executing it well. Nice to see you held back and then had energy to pass lots of people at the end....just the way it should be done.

Great read...nice to put those ROTCs in their place.
