Subject: RE: Never, never, ever ...> At the last 5k race where I had no goal and was out for a sprint tri training run, I ended up just 6 seconds off of my PR. So this time I'm setting a goal to obliterate it, 6:50/mile it is. I will report back on how I did...
Boy oh boy I set myself up for disappointment :- ) I forgot one fundamental item about running a race, RUN YOUR OWN RACE!
At the 1 mile mark I was feeling good and was close to my target time with a 6:58 mile. I was running with a pack a runners I've seen from some of the other local races so I decided to pace of them for the second mile. At mile 2 marker I was shocked that we slowed down 30 seconds. It didn't feel like we did but I think we all got bit by the heat bug too. After 1.5 miles or so miles we had a 5-10 mph tail wind that did nothing for helping you stay comfortable. I decided to see if I could lead the pack in and hoped that someone would come up and push me in, but nobody did. I tried ti run it in hard to the finish but I got very hot the last half mile or so with absolutely no air coming across me to help to cool some so I didn't do my usual kick either. I ended up 25 seconds off of my PR :- (
Later that day I felt extremely wiped out and took a 2 hour nap with my daughter (priceless! ). Yesterday I had joint aches & pains and was in bed right after the Soprano's (WTF was that about! ) and woke up this morning feeling like crap with chest congestion and coughing. Not sure if that factored into Sat's run or not.
Well back to my Olympic training once I feel better...
