Pre-race routine:

got up super early so I would have a chance to eat something and have a cup of coffee. So nervous, I got down an orange segment and about 4 spoons full of cheerios. And about a 1/2 cup of coffee, which, based on my 3/4 of a pot per day habit, was not nearly enough. Yikes. Settle down girl!
Event warmup:

Just a brisker than average walk to the start to warm up my legs a little, about 10 minutes of stretching.
Run
  • 38m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

First time and I almost chickened out all the way up until the start line because I knew I couldn't run the whole way. But, I wore my watch and took four, 30 second walk breaks, and I finished the darn thing!
What would you do differently?:

I would have gotten the chip so my time would be more accurate (i.e. it took so long to even get to the starting line once the race began!) Next time I'll do the whole thing running!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked, stretched, drank water.

Good goin Pammy. That's how you start. I don't know if you read it or not, but Jeff Galloway advocates the run/walk technique for beginners on up. Even though you have your first race under your belt, you will get the jitters for every one you do!!!! That's just part of racing, the excitement, unknown, etc.

WAY TO GO!!!!! and congratulations,

Evelyn
