I can't find the link but a cow was apparently killed by a lion in the SW corner of Wisconsin in the last few days. It was fairly close to the Kickapoo Valley, and as a fly fisherman who frequents that area I pay close attention to things that could make a meal of me. A fly rod doesn't offer much protection from a big kitty.

On a positive note, the fact that they are seeing lions in areas where they were believed to be extinct it a pretty cool thing, or it's just some idiot that had a pet he/she couldn't take care of. I like to believe that they're making a comeback. Have another one that's been spotted on the North Shore of Superior, outside of Duluth Minnesota. Another place I fish a lot. Maybe I should look into a pistol of somesort like the Alaskan Guides carry.

Good Luck,
Jay

My inlaws live in southern Iowa and have seen these kitty's run thru their pasture (30 acres of unfarmable land is a pasture down there).

Kind of scary when the kids are running around outside.

I'm suspicious of that picture.

1) That guy would have to be a super strong to pick that cat up.
2) I don't see a fourth leg.
3) I don't see a entrance or exit wound, there is some discoloration on the fur. But to be dropped after 100 yeards there would have to be a lot of blood.

This Mountain Loin get around!!

And after a quick search.

I looked it up on Snopes, and the picture is real although the description is off on some details.  It's a 190lb mountain lion, and the guy in the pic is 5'10".  That's not an enormous amount of weight to pick up either.

Since they stalk and attack from behind, a pistol is just going to cause a little indigestion. You'd be better wearing a face-mask backwards.

They can be very scary. I was hunting in Arkansas and I was walking back to the camp at night when I heard one scream VERY close. Not a pleasent feeling.

Yeah, if a big cat is stalking you and is hungry you have very little chance. I'm more worried about big cats than brown bears when I'm in the wild.

Yeah, I remember. Wonder if it would have made good ... BACON!

Mmmmm. Bacon!
