Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:15, had a piece of toast w/ soy nut butter and jam. Also drank a cup of coffee w/ soymilk and then some cytomax.
Got down to the race around 6:35 and had to run to the office to use the "facilities".. got to the starting blob around 6:50..
Event warmup:

None.. a hamstring and quad stretch, that's all I had time for.. not good.
Run
  • 1h 21m 30s
  • 8.15 miles
  • 10m  min/mile
Comments:

The run was better than I thought it would be. I had only run 6 miles as my longest run ever.. so I was concerned that 8.15 would be too much for me. I felt pretty good throughout the race never getting too high a HR and my breathing never became labored. Felt like I had a good pace for me.
What would you do differently?:

I would get to the race sooner - get up toward the front since I had to dodge so many people from the waves behind me, since they lined up in the wrong place and refused to get out of the way for faster paced numbers. I would stretch before the race - got a little pain in my knee and my hip flexor that probably would have been taken care of w/ some preliminary stretching!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked all over kingdom come looking for shuttle busses.. we were told four different locations before we located the proper place so walked a lot. Then got down to Waikiki and walked up and down looking for a place to eat and to change at the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

genetics and lack of training for this distance

Event comments:

Felt like the start could have been more organized and then afterwards was a bit confusing. We were meeting at the lost children stand but couldn't find it!! the t-shirt area/snack area got a little jammed up - still overall I was happy to get a banana!
