Since we are living right next door to our lot, we get to see the progress on a daily basis. That is a good and bad thing as when they aren't doing any work it is aggravating ........

I did the drawings for the house, but we used a pre-set design that was pretty straight forward to keep costs down. So as far as architectural design, this is NOT a house to look at. But it is my first house that I will "own" (my wife owned our last one before we got married so it was not really mine).

Here are a couple of the framing pics of the outside. It will be about 2,700 s.f. with a two car garage and unfinished basement on an acre lot in Fulton, Maryland which is located in Howard County (like the 7th richest county in the country .... what the heck am I doing in it!!).

That Rocks, Rick.

My wife and I are building a house here in Anne Arundel Co about 1/4 mile from our current townhouse.  It's quite the coincidence that my run route just "happens" to take me by it every day or two.

Ours is going to be a standard style like yours.   A little bigger inside, but I am SOOO jealous of your land.  We're going to be on 1/5 acre.  But I'm not good in the yard, so it works out well for me.

Congrats on the home.  Keep posting the pics.

The acre was in my wife's family, which is the only reason we can even come close to living in this area.

They are scheduled to do the roof framing today. But with the 20 - 30 mph winds they are expecting I don't know if it will happen ....

Congrats! That is so exciting.

Where's the endless pool going? The gym in the basement?

Actually have tossed around that idea (Endless pool) ........ don't tempt me. ;-P

That would really have to wait until I open my own firm and can pay myself six figures, then I could afford to do something like that. Plus need to do an IM so that I can get the discount for one.

Looks like patio doors opening to a grade entrance, and some pretty big windows down there...why the 'unfinished' basement...looks like another 1400 sq ft or so of living space down there...you know, gym, sauna, that sort of thing

Cost issue ..... can't afford the extra $30k to finish it out. I'll be doing it myself over the next few months after we move in.

Yeah, it does have sliders to go out to grade (up a few steps), so that will be nice for keeping the bikes secure and easy to get out to ride.

Comet ...... I'm not sure which indoor pool system it is, but one of them gives something like a 15% discount to anyone who completes an IM under 17 hours.

Looking good! I know how exciting this can be! What kind of foundations do you use in your neck of the woods? They don't look like the poured concrete that is most common around here.

Oh, and be sure to keep room in your basement for the endless pool, the treadmill and stationary bike, and weather will never again prevent you from completing and kind of tri training!

Nice, nice, nice.

Would you like to design a floating home for me?

Yes, poured concrete. They just use a "brick" look in the formwork since a lot of it will be exposed.

I don't go within 50' of treadmills ...... ....... I run outside year round, rain, snow, or shine. And I've already got the trainer set-up needed. Just have to figure out the pool thing.

Renee ...... what do you have in mind??? I am a licensed architect.

I know - that's why I asked!

Something like this floating house. While you're at it, make it energy efficient and green-friendly. Would want it permanently docked/moored. Can you do something with making it hydrogen fuel powered (off the power grid)?

Cool, how exciting to watch the construction.

I want a basement!  Having a basement is like an entire extra floor.

With an acre lot why go with an endless pool get the real deal.  Heated 50 meter lap pool!

Because of the set-back required from the road we are somewhat limited for the back yard, so not really looking to do an outdoor pool there.

Renee ....... one of the few ways to get off the grid would be to go completely photovoltaic solar. In NC, you might be able to get away with that (good sun angles/location), but you are also looking at LEAST at $25k to get a system sufficient enough to power everything with a rechargeable generator back-up. It would not be hard to do some type of water recirc. system for the non-potable water and have "green" fixtures.

We have plenty of people in my office who are LEED accredited (US Green Building Council organization and testing), and once I get off my azz, I will be too.

That's cool! Do you stain or paint it to make it even more realistic?

Yeah, but he'd have to contend with animals being in his pool at all times of day.  Like other triathletes who are tired of getting dizzy swiimming in a 25 meter pool.

There's a money making idea Rick.  Put in the pool and sell memberships to other local triathletes.  A 50 meter pool is something I'd actually PAY for.

I'm already seriously tossing around the idea of putting an endless pool in my architecture office when I finally open a firm. Then I can rent time to athletes who don;t feel like going to the local pool and being stuck with other people in their lane. They can reserve blocks of time in the EP and train in peace.
