Not really unusual but we have a theme and a story behind it .....

When my wife was pregnant with our first and we found out it was a boy we each went through the baby name books. I went through all the boys name and just came back to Brendan. Neither of our families are that Irish (we each have a smattering in our past) but that name just stuck with me and I said that it was his first name. My wife was not so enthusiastic about it, but researched the Sainthood of the name, the numerology of the spelling and other things (she is very spiritual and astrological) and found out that the only day where we know he would have been conceived was St. Brendan's feast day ...... whow! So that name "came" to me for a reason. And it became his name.

With baby two we cheated and figured out the day we conceived and looked up the list of Saint's feast days on that day and chose our second little Irish guy ...... Collin. Since St. Brendan and St. Collin were somewhat contemporary it worked out nicely.

Now that baby boy three is coming in the next month we have gotten a little more lax in the naming ...... we wanted to pick something Irish and it had to start with "A" since we already have a "B" and "C," and it had to be an "en" finish since we had a "an" and "in" ........ If it was going to be a girl it was going to be Ann Caitlyn, but since it is a boy he is going to be Aiden. Still talking about the middle name. But we are thinking Thomas. We have a Samuel and a Michael (biblical names) so Thomas might work.

Yes, we are a wierd couple ......

My name is Nels with a middle name of Peter. Nels is a family name from many generations. My great-grandfather made some beautiful dining furniture by hand 120 years ago. the head chair has NPA inlaid in the back of the chair. Since I have the same initials, I have inherited the stuff. It is awesome. When we were pregnant with #1, we picked out a girl name - Theresa - and couldn't decide on a boys name, but we knew it had to have the NPA initials to hand down the furniture. My wife was not crazy about Nels so I relented and we have Nicholas Peter. He is the triathlete in my avatar.

#2 was also a boy. For many family reasons, Joseph James was an easy choice. He has never been "J.J." although I like it. We made a huge mistake by telling family and friends that we would call him "Joey". As he is now 3, his personality is "Joe" not "Joey". At this point I can't stand it when people call him Joey. Even though we make a point not to call him Joey, my MIL will never get it through her head that Joey is out. Like I said, it's all our fault.

Speaking to the "J" family, my dad and siblings all had "P.D.A." for initials. Five boys and two girls...Paul, Peter, Patrick, Philip, Perry were the boys and Priscilla and Petra for the girls. They all had the middle name "Drake".
