Comments:

Just for the hell of it, I lined up right at the starting line and took off like a missile, which allowed me to lead the entire field for about 50 yards... then I slowed down and they caught me :)

I think this jackrabbit strategy was helpful in knocking another 1:09 off my 5K time, setting up another PB. I seemed to catch my breath more quickly than in my previous two races... if I can just get a rhythm established in that first quarter mile, I seem to do a lot better.
What would you do differently?:

Double-knot my shoes next time! I was in the last turn and my right shoe came untied at the last little hill. I thought my shoe might stay on, but I stopped and tied it, probably losing the 20 seconds or so that I could have had that would have helped me break 26:00. Oh well. In a month, I've cut over 2 minutes from my 5K time, I'm very pleased!
Post race
Warm down:

It was raining pretty good by the time the race was finished... just grabbed some water and walked back to the car, which I had parked at the downtown library.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I might have used a little more rest... perhaps I shouldn't have ridden my bike yesterday. Oh well!

Event comments:

I'm getting better at this racing thing, I expect my times to improve as I learn how I can push my body!

Way to go, Scott!  Congrats on yet another PB ... to shave minute off a 5k is no small feat.

I think your new location moniker has a lot to do with it; if you are training in Zone 2, then you are building the base necessary to run faster.

As far as the shoe laces, try getting some Yankz (http://www.yankz.com/).  They not only will make sure your shoe laces will never become untied again during a race, but will make your T2 time faster as you just slip your running shoe on.

I also find them to be a lot more comfortable than normal shoe laces as they give just the right amount of fit on the top of your shoe - not too tight/not too loose.

Congrats again.

Nice race. Yeah, I learned my doubleknotting the shoe lesson the hard way. I ended up catching my spike in the lace of my other shoe in a cross country race about 6 years ago and went down pretty hard within the last half mile. It cost me the race!

Hey nice PR...way to go!  That's a cool tactic at the start, it keeps you from having to weave through everyone when you start at the back like I do.  Of course I don't do much weaving...I start at the back and stay there!  Keep up the good work!
