Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6, listening to the rain. Asked myself if I really wanted to do the race. The answer was a resounding "Duh!"

Grabbed a quick shower, ate the usual Oatmeal Raisin Clif Bar and drank Accelerade on the way to the race.
Event warmup:

Very little. Jogged a little bit and did some light stretching in the bathroom where it was warm and dry. Then I just hung around talking to Aaron and Haley waiting for the race to start.
Run
  • 16m 14s
  • 2.2 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried to take it easy the first lap, but as usual I went out too hard the first mile. Pulled way back on the second mile and jogged in with Aaron.
What would you do differently?:

Pace myself better the first mile. I always go out too hard early.
Transition 1
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Transition area was very wet. Got my bike shoes and helmet on and unracked with no issues. Ran my bike about 20 yards to where there was a big puddle, so I tried to slow down and step over it. Didn't work too well. Slid several feet and tweaked my achilles. Not bad, but it was there. Decided to walk in transition the rest of the time. Hey, it's a C race. Let's not go crazy here.
What would you do differently?:

Walk the whole thing.
Bike

Comments:

Felt great. No sharp turns except right at the start and finish, the rest was just curves. Pretty easy to stay aero the entire course. Wanted to stay pretty relaxed but I set a new PR for a bike leg in a race. Sure, I have a long way to go on the bike, but I'm steadily improving.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Slowed way down approaching the dismount point. Probably cost me some speed on the bike, but I didn't care. Better safe than sorry.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing given the conditions.
Run
  • 17m 7s
  • 2.2 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Started to rain on me after about 2 minutes on the 2nd run leg. My legs were a little hesitant at the start. I could tell it was my first brick in a long time. Loosened up towards the end. Rain got harder the longer I ran.
What would you do differently?:

I need brick practice. That's what this race was for.
Transition 3
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Learned from the first time. Walked from the rack to the mount point. No worries.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 35m 10s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.06 mile/hr
Comments:

Rained pretty hard the first lap and the wind picked up quite a bit. Struggled a lot when I hit the wind on the first lap. Rain let up on the second lap and the wind died a little. Started to feel good again towards the end.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 4
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Easy walk to the rack. Running shoes were wet. Oh well...
What would you do differently?:

Maybe have some kind of cover to keep shoes dry.
Run

Comments:

Felt a lot better this time. Legs were raring to go from the start. Spied a couple of runners about 250 yards ahead of me so I set a goal to catch them. Caught and passed the guy (who ended up being in my AG). Caught up with the girl, but she put on a kick the last 200 yards and I let her go. Cruised easily to the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Felt pretty good. Could have gone faster but didn't want to.
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged to the car, grabbed my bottle of Endurox. Hung out with Aaron (what a cool guy) and Haley after the finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was just a C race. I could have pushed a lot harder on the run, and a little harder on the bike. My main goal was to have fairly even splits across the run and bike legs. Mission accomplished. Run splits were within a minute of each other, bike splits were about 30 seconds different. I'm pleased.

That said, if this had been an A race, the weather would have played a major factor.

Event comments:

This was an extremely fun race. I'll definitely be back again. Liked the format. Run course is pretty easy. Bike course was fast and flat.

And a finally met some BTers. Bonus!
