Comments: I thought it was a great race. I started off nice and easy at an 8min pace, and then after a couple miles, I picked it up a bit. I took a couple sips of water at each station, but I was never really thirsty. My little tiny bottle had 2 shots of gel mixed with water. It seemed to be a good amount of fuel for me. I hate getting passed, so I never let it happen. Instead, I would pick a person up ahead of me, and catch up with them. Whenever I'm next to somebody during a race, I get the urge to go faster. I'm never satisfied just going the same speed as that person. I spent 1hr and 40mins passing people and it was awesome! Right up to the very last mile, I made sure nobody around me was going faster. It was a great feeling. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Post race
Warm down: Drank a 180 energy drink that they handed out at the finish. I talked to my wife about the race, and then caught up with Drmac to chat. I ran another 10mins to cool down, and stretched a bit, and then went home and stretch A LOT! What limited your ability to perform faster: Inexperience. My previous longest race was just over 7 miles. This was a very new experience for me, so I didn't know how I'd handle it physically and mentally. Now that I know what I'm capable of at HR160, I would probably push the envelope a little more through the middle of the race. Event comments: That was good times. And the shirts/medals were pretty neat. I enjoyed the experience. ~B Last updated: 2006-03-20 12:00 AM

1 bowl of oatmeal (less sugar brown sugar and cinnomon flavor), and a bit of pb&j sammich. I went easy on the water.
Got to the race site about an hour early, so I just chilled in the car and listened to Rage Against the Machine for a while. Then I lace up the shoes and went for a 15 min jog. Then I ditched a layer of clothes in the car and headed to the gym for some stretching with my gel/water mix and my HRM. I stretched for a good 15 minutes, and then relieved myself one more time in the woods before the race. Perfect!
