Overall Rank = 19/160
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 5/18
Pre-race routine:

Had pasta the night before. GU before the race also.
Event warmup:

Tried to stay warm it was cold and raining. Got soaked running out to put a towel over my socks and shoes. Everyone clustered into the warm up lane of the pool just before getting to start (15 second intervals between each athlete). Everyone just lined up in the lane since there wasn't any swimming room.

Swim
  • 06m 27s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 09s / 100 meters
Comments:

Did not feel I swam as well as I could have. First zig zag swim though. Smacked my calf on the ropes a couple of times. Was only passed by the guy that started 15 seconds after me (caught him on the bike!). Passed the girl that started 45 seconds ahead of me.

Also lost my TYR swim mask and had to swim with my cheap Speedo goggles. I think I missed putting them in my bag at the gym. My fist gloves are with them too. Called and they said nobody turned them in. :(
What would you do differently?:

At least a 1/2 lap warm up. I felt like I kicked more than I have been when I am training. Probably could have swam a little more efficiently and thus would have made breathing easier.

Will also get another TYR swim mask.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition times were included in with the bike leg.

T1 went pretty well considering my shirt, socks, and shoes were soaked from the rain and sleet.
What would you do differently?:

If there is bad weather, maybe prepare for it better so my gear is not soaked.
Bike
  • 38m 16s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Biked well. Legs were frozen at first and my knee caps felt like they iced over. Only had trouble clipping back in at the first marking stop. Went easy in the turns and corners because of the wet streets.
What would you do differently?:

Clip back in right away. I have gotten good at clipping back in but had trouble on the first one. Maybe from the wet pedal and cleat?
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition time included in bike time. Good transition, but did not take my helmet off and had to back track to take it off.
What would you do differently?:

Take my helmet off right after racking the bike.
Run
  • 21m 49s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran pretty well. Finished strong with a sprint to the finish line (passed 2 people during the sprint). Did not find anyone to grab onto to help pace myself or reel in. Jelly legs did not affect me too much.
What would you do differently?:

Leave my helmet in transition before going to start the run.
Post race
Warm down:

It was cold - cooled right down. Went and found my dry long sleave shirt.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The weather.

Event comments:

No post race activities. The lightning strike that closed the pool for 1/2 hour put the race far behind schedule.

Awards are 5 deep and I finished 5th in my age category. It says I can pick up the award on Friday at LBS. Will probably make a Saturday bike ride out of it.
