Pre-race routine:

Arrived, stretched a little, ate GU, then put my wetsuit on. It was so windy - 30mph winds.

Comments:

Started out ok. Did not like how I reacted when I was bumped or bumped into others. I seemed to tread or goto sweet spot until I had room to swim again. I felt that I got of my stroke often because the chop was very bad from 30mph winds. I also navigated horribly and on top of that the buoy blew so far out and many of us still went to round it. I think I actually swam about 800 meters... still poorly none the less. I did not keep my stroke and breathing very consistent. Murky water too.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice open water a lot. I need to concentrate on my race, rather than worrying about others, where they are and if they are going to bump into me. Just need to worry about myself in the water and keep my stroke and breathing in rythym.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

New Puma Tri Socks went on fast. It was very easy to get out of my wetsuit, I think the guy pulling my zipper down as I exited the water helped a lot.
What would you do differently?:

Did very well, wouldn't change a thing.

Comments:

Ran very well and felt fast. I really liked my new Puma Tri Socks. Finished very strong and felt good throughout the run.(estimated time - no individual splits)
What would you do differently?:

I ran a little past the turn on the first loop... maybe know the course better next time to avoid this.
Post race
Warm down:

Glass of water, and took my wetsuit over to

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The wind and chop. Also not having any experience in open water swims, especially with others around. When I bumped someone, I found myself stopping to tread until the coast was clear... caused others to catch up and bump me from behind.

Event comments:

Well run and awards were at Monti's... nice to get a Guinness after the race!
