Pre-race routine:

I was pretty nervous last night as this is my first race of any kind. I've been training in all three sports for a little over 3 months and was getting comfortable with training and although I know I could do the distance it was a little nerve racking. I was finally going to see what that time produced and see if i really like triathlon racing having aready sunk so much time into the preperation of this.

Anways I got up at 5:00am and threw all my transition gear in a bag that I had got together last night and loaded up the saddle bag on my bike. I got a flat on a training ride yesterday and needed some new C02 and a tube (this comes in handdy later in the day). I ate a clif bar and had one gel. I had a banana and another gel while I waited for my heat to start
Event warmup:

Swam 100m in the pool. Not much of a warm up.
Swim
  • 11m 50s
  • 700 meters
  • 01m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was good. There were 3 other people in my lane. Right off the beginning the guy in front of me was kind slow so i passed and lead the lane for the next 600m. I got caught by the end of the 700m swim and we all exited the pool at the same time. My goggles ended up leaking in the first 25m of the swim and for the entire swim it bugged me.
What would you do differently?:

I would take it a little slower of the start and maybe try to draft a little more if I get the opportunity. Other then that nothing. I beat my expectations by about 10 sec so I'm happy.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Trasition was a little slower then I had hoped, but it was my first one so I'm just happy that I got through it without to much trouble.
Bike
  • 45m 7s
  • 20 kms
  • 26.60 km/hr
Comments:

The bike was going pretty well until I got a falt. That really sucked. The course was extremly hilly so there was a ton of climbing including one monster of a hill. I was disappointed overall with my preformance on the bike even if there had been no flat. I know that I could go faster. I went on a long ride yesterday so that could hae been affecting my preformance today.
What would you do differently?:

Not a whole lot, I would probably drink a little more. I think that I raced it ok, but I would try not to get a flat :)
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This transition was very smooth
Run
  • 22m 30s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 30s  min/km
Comments:

This was a hard run. Up hill one way and down hill the other. It took me a little while to get my legs going but once I did I got into a pretty good stride. The steep down hill killed my legs.
What would you do differently?:

Not to much. I ran a pretty steady effort the whole way.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing... I should have streached though :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Flat Tire on the bike

Event comments:

This is my first race and I loved it. I can't wait till the next one :)
