Seven of my fellow faculty members ran in the same half-mary last month. We're going to all wear our finisher's medals along with our academic gowns to graduation this year.

The medals and multicolored ribbons look great in that context -- like we all won Nobel peace prizes. Except that there's a fat, waddling penguin where the profile of Alfred Nobel should be.

I have kept every.single.medal. and every.single.ribbon. I've ever won for 13 YEARS of competitive swimming and rowing (yeah, I've got a lot). My swimming medals from high school and my Tri/running medals (i've got medals for RUNNING? Did someone leave the icebox in hell open?) get hung on my cork board in my room behind the computer. My half marathon medal is staring me in the face right now, and I'm smiling.

Most road races, or at least longer ones give you a medal for competing.  What do you do with your medals??? Hang them up, hide them in the close???  I doubt I can ever hope for an overall win at any event, or even an age group, unless the group is very small.

Both. I hang them up in my closet. Ribbons too.

WOW Aaron, that is an awesome idea.  At the expo today they were selling a lot of medal stands and racks.  Probably could make them at home for a ton cheaper, but got some good ideas.
