Subject: Back in the game after surgery...

I had surgery on Oct 7th for a sinus related problem. I just got the ok to start training again and i am aggravated in regards to my run. I feel like this is the first time i ever ran. I can bike with no problem and i have not been in the pool to test that out basically because i am afraid that all the mucous and dry blood from the surgery will come out in the pool !!!Embarassed

It is hard to pound the ground when i know i can barely do a mile !!! I know i have to put in the miles but it is tough to get motivated to run !! I was never a good runner , always avg around 10 :30 - 11 min mile anyway but now i am at nearly 14 !!! i feel as if i have no wind at all !!! Ofcourse, i also gained a few lbs since surgery and i am sure the holidays wont help with that !!!

OK, thanks... i just wanted to Vent alittle bit !!!! any advice would be greatly appreciated !!!

Thanks again

Give yourself some time to build back up, don't jump in where you left off (mileage/timewise).  It will come back a LOT faster than it did the first time.   Be kind to yourself!

Give it some time and give yourself credit. Afterall getting out there after time off can be a challange in and of itself. Last Febuary I had surgery and also had to go through three seperate post op complications. Getting back out was slow but I built back up over time and now am back at my ususal 9:45 mile. Good luck!

Thanks, i was thinking about doing the 3-2-1 approach but did not think that running 6 days a week was a good move or not ??? i would start at 1 mile-2miles-3miles and go from there !!  wish there was a pill i could take that would make me run a 9 min mile Wink

If you lose it quickly, it'll come back quicker than if you never had it. You'll be back soon enough. Just hang in there.
