I was told today that they are going to stream the Swim Start and the swim exit to the internet.

The internet address was going to be posted on the B2B Facebook page sometime in the next few days.

That will be cool if Setup can pull that off.

They did that with Pinehurst...it was very grainy and low quality. I got bored after about 30 seconds and couldnt make out much. It may be better at B2B though, and if so, that would be quite cool!

U can find a place to park at T1.  no parking at swim start.  However, its not too far from T1 or one of the hotels along the intercoastal to park and ride a bike to the swim start and watch that way.

I live here (well in Carolina Beach) and I've done this race several times.  Your best bet is to skip having family and friends try to come to the swim start.  Getting on and off the island on race morning is a nightmare after 7am.  My family tried to watch me come into T1 one year and it took them almost an hour to get off the island.  There will be parking in the grass lot area near T1 so if they are hell-bent on seeing you come off the docks and thru T1, they should be able to find a place to park in the grassy area behind T1.

Best of luck to everyone racing this weekend.  I wish I could be out there with you but this season didn't go as planned and I've decided that it's best to heal up and try again next year.

buses and transition before race

Good morning folks, Do the buses from the Hilton stop at T1? Will there be pumps there to top off the tires?

Same bus to swim start?

Thanks and good luck tomorrow!

I missed the athlete meeting, raced here in the full in 2010. Anything they raised today of significance not in the published athlete guide?

Well did everyone survive?  Looked like lots of carnage on the run course despite the cool temperature.  I myself had an underwhelming run, but still managed to PR on the day.  Volunteers were great, event seemed well executed.

How was the finish compared to years past? Did the half crowd leave and make for an empty finish line or did the dinner/party crowd (random people) check out what was going on?

I did it in 2010 when it was across the river, so the experience this year was different.  Also it was very cold & dark, so different environment altogether.

There was no congestion when I came in this year.  Spectators lined the streets and both sides of the chute which seemed long, allowing more time to soak in the feeling of accomplishment as you wrapped up a long day.   Announcer called me by name & city.  Pretty cool stuff wrapping up an awesome day.

I thought the finish was better, more spectators, improved overall experience. I was pumped once I dropped down to the riverfront and the spectators cheering your name made it all the better.  Once I crossed, a volunteer grabbed me and let me away to the recovery tent where they attended to you like royalty.

I'll be back next year as I have unfinished business that needs to be attended!

Posted this over in the half thread too:

What a difference a week makes! Here is the forecast for tomorrow in Wilmington:

  • Rain. High near 71. Breezy, with a north wind 20 to 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
  • Saturday Night Tropical storm conditions possible. Rain. Low around 60. North wind 24 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Ah, that would have sucked!

I think my finish line experience was a bit different from yours.  I am a BOPer, and came in at 15:33:26, right around 11pm.  I still had an hour and a half before the cutoff and the finish line area was nearly empty.  Even though I was absolutely thrilled to be finishing, in the back of my mind, I was a little disappointed that no one was really there.  I had no catchers (thankfully I didn't need them), and no one did anything after I crossed the line, except handed me my medal.  That was it.  Everything was already broken down and closed up for the night, and I wasn't even close to the cutoff time!

Overall, I absolutely loved this race, but I do wish there was more for the BOPers at the finish.  It's just as big of a deal as those who come in FOP and MOP, and we deserve the cheering and care too.

I raced in 2010 and 2012 and had the same experience to lakeview for both years. I think it was a smart decision to move the finish from the battleship to downtown. Downtown provided for a much better environment I thought. There were still fans, music, etc when I finished at 13:55. I came in at 15:09 in 2010 and it was dark and empty at the battleship, and cold.

I feel bad for you Regina and felt the same way in 2010... but don't let it diminish your accomplishment!

Hey guys, congratulations to all. This was my first 140 and at mile 20 or the run when I knew I would make it was a good feeling. I crossed the line shortly before 20:00 and there were still folks along the chute to give you a charge. I get de-chipped and a mylar sheet but didn't know there was a recovery tent.

I wandered back at 12P and cheered the last 2 finishers. It was very hard getting out of bed. I agree it was a bit of a bummer that things were either packed or getting packed. I'd like to think that the 00:15  finisher gets some love too. I can understand that volunteers who've been up as long as we have are wiped too.

Regina, big toe props for finishing 140.6 on a broken toe...you're TOUGH!

Again congratulations all!

Our hotel was overlooking the finsih area and I woke up and went back to the finish area just after 12:00 and was told everyone on the course had finished...  I wanted to help cheer on the group at the end of the race.  I wish I had the energy to get back a bit sooner - but all in all a great day to remember for all the finishers!
