Is anyone interested in a BT get together either before the race or at packet pick up.   There is a pre-race meeting at 1 on Saturday.  I don't know how many are planning to attend.  I'm up for either.

I'm game. Meeting at packet pick up or the pre-race works for me.

Wetsuit for a 250m swim. Ridiculous or good practice for later season races? Discuss.

i am leaning toward ridiculous. it certainly crossed my mind, but i can't justify wearing a wetsuit for a swim that will take less time than it will to rinse the suit off when i get home!

it is going to be cold though. i hope it will be warm enough out that starting the bike wet won't be a problem.

i'd be up for it, but i think we are going to do the packet pick-up at tri-nergy instead of at the race site.

The water will be on the cold side, but consider that you'll only be in the water for a few minutes at most. There really is no need for a wet suit. Plus, your body won't have time to warm up the water in the suit, so all the suit will give you is a little extra bouyancy.

i am wearing my wetsuit because my swim time with it on is close to a minute or more faster (than without it on).  i'm not as concerned with the warmth as much as the speed.

you can save a minute over a 250meter swim with a wetsuit? that's pretty substantial.
on the other hand, won't it take you a minute to take it off and hang it?

Hmmm. I'm not so much concerned with wearing it for this race's results, exactly (I mean ... 250m?) but for getting practice with T1 with wetsuit removal for later season races.

Again, though: 250m. I'd feel pretty silly wearing it. But then, I look pretty silly running and biking, so it's not like I do this for the ego trip.

You're saying that you are 6 seconds per lap faster per 25? Are you sure you read that watch correctly? How fast are you swimming each 100?

I'm wearing the top half of my T1.  I loathe cold water...

yup i can, and yes it is.  I did a trial in my wetsuit (250 yd pool) and it took me about 3:35.  without a wetsuit, i'm swimming at 4:30 at least.  i can strip out of the wetsuit in under ten seconds, so if I can save myself 50 seconds, I'll save it.

is it worth it?  for me, yes.

Last year about a 1/3 of the people wore wetsuits and the water temperature was about the same.  It was a little shocking at first and there was definite shrinkage but I wasn't uncomfortable after the first 50.  If I had a sleeveless wetsuit I would probably wear that but I going with just a tri shorts and top.

For those interested, I know a pretty good pizza place (near 28 and 29) that we could go to after packet pick up and/or the race meeting.  Then we could get a picture in the morning before the race.  There's plenty of time in the morning with the staggered start unless someone has a real low number.  Just some thoughts.

hell yeah it's worth it. i was just amazed it's that much. it would probably save me about 5 seconds overall, so i wouldn't do it, but if i thought it would keep me warm and shave off :50 i'd wear one too.

lmao.
i was dreading the swim because of the temp before, but if the rain comes hard enough, it might be the most pleasant part of the morning!

Good times getting to Centreville today. They shut down 66 five cars before teh centreville exit, stayed closed for 30 minutes. Ugh. I ended up driving the wrong way down the shoulder and backtracking. Long day!!!

Luckily my jock strappers are here and all is right with the world. See you tomorrow!

I hope everyone else had as much fun today as I did!

Just a heads up on the sweatshirt, you may want to wash it before wearing it - my formerly khaki shorts are currently covered in blue lint...
