Master 2094 | Subject: Parris Island Triathlon : Official Thread Just over 6 weeks away to start the 2012 season. This will be my 4th trip to Parris Island. Great race and always well run. I will be staying on Hilton Head Island and driving down for the race. We did the same thing last year and it really worked out well for the family. We tried staying in Savannah one year for St. Paddy's and it worked out fairly well but was not as family friendly. 1st year we stayed at a Days Inn in Beaufort. OK but not the mini-weekend getaway we were looking forward to. |

New user 153 Columbia | Subject: RE: Parris Island Triathlon : Official Thread Just registered. This will be my first trip to The Island. About to book a hotel. Wife will be there in a support role for this race, and we're planning on staying through Sunday. Curious as to why you said: "1st year we stayed at a Days Inn in Beaufort. OK but not the mini-weekend getaway we were looking forward to." ...since that's what we're looking for. A quite hotel post with a big seafood feast saturday night. Thanks! |

Master 2094 | Subject: RE: Parris Island Triathlon : Official Thread The Days Inn was fine. It was quiet and filled with triathletes. I would not hesitate to stay there again. My wife prefers a spa setting and expects massages and towel service at the beach. That's why we stayed in HH last year. This year my son is in a Lacrosse meet in HH so we will be staying there again. I love shellfiish and my wife and I have made a habit out of trying to find the best seafood place the night before a race. We went a place in downtown Beaufort right on the water that was excellent. I can't remember the name but will try and find it. Beaufort is a quaint little town and worth a visit. |

Basic seafood (doesn't pretend to be fancy) but pretty fresh and well cooked the two times I've been there. Days Inn is fine, but yeah, no massages or chocolates on the pillow... I toyed with doing the race this year, but it turns out I'll be out of town. Good race. |

I just haven't made it there yet so I cant comment. Michael, the foot must be feeling better if your even considering a race. |

I've run three times over the past several days - just a few miles. Then I have to wait 203 days before it feels like I can run again. Drives me crazy. I don't think it's 100%, but getting there. I hope. |

Veteran 260 Hong Kong | Subject: RE: Parris Island Triathlon : Official Thread This will be my third PI Sprint. Perfect start of the season race for any athlete level. Great beginner race with a swim in nice warm pool and very controlled bike and run race course. The drive in the morning to the venue is just SPECTACULAR! Driving from Savannah. Good luck to all participants, I'm sure y'all will love this race. |

LOL thanks! As much as it sucks that I have this "issue" I have to laugh at myself at times. Its another military installation so I'll be in my element. Currently I only ride my bike on Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. |

Master 2094 | Subject: RE: Parris Island Triathlon : Official Thread A couple of years ago my wife missed her swim start time and had to go to the back. I was done by the time she was starting her bike. This race usually has right at 500 people but never feels congested except for the women's bath room line. Edited by pschriver 2012-03-14 5:42 AM |

Expert 1128 Fort Riley, Kansas | Subject: RE: Parris Island Triathlon : Official Thread I finished in 1:07:37, had a horrible swim, good bike and good run. Was ranked "2nd" in my age group (women 25-29) but if you look at the results, I got the same exact time at the 1st place in my age group, so was given 2nd place based on the alphabetical rule if there is a tied. A fun race, I had a great time and it was great seeing people I haven't seen in a few months. |

Member 55 | Subject: RE: Parris Island Triathlon : Official Thread Congrats to all. This was my first sprint tri and I loved it. I am officially hooked! Finished @ 1:05. My transitions were slow..T1 2:00, T2 2:05. Need to make some adjustments for sure. I'd like to submit a race report. Does anyone know who to do this? Thanks. |

New user 4 | Subject: RE: Parris Island Triathlon : Official Thread If I remember correctly the bike course was a really flat (not to rough pavement) "Y" type course. It's pretty fast, corners weren't too bad (you can take most in aero). The run is a flat 5K basically out and back, the finish line is obscured until 1/4 mile to the end. |

New user 239 Walterboro | Subject: RE: Parris Island Triathlon : Official Thread Last year the run seemed a little short to me. Also be aware that the time trail start for the swim can be a pain. Last year people were going out of turn who should have been way further back in the line. Hopefully this year they will do a better job with the swim start.
