Comments: My warmup wasn't quite good enough. And I started a bit too fast. I was immediately uncomfortable and had to relax and concentrate to catch my breath and wait for my body to get in the groove. Fortunately after the first couple hundred yards the course went down hill which enabled me to catch up with myself. What would you do differently?: More strides in the warm up...and kept moving until the start. (I lined up at 5 til and they started 5 minutes late). And started a touch slower. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and put my training shoes back on. Waited for the 9am start to the 10k which I ran with my daughter. So I had a 6.2 mile cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Perhaps the need for speed work? Event comments: The mile markers were WAY off on this course. For both the 10k and 5k races. My wrist watch showed over 14:00 when I hit mile marker 2. Thought my race was down the drain. But I averaged 6:35. I found the same kind of thing during the 10k. the down hills were very hard on my body. Beat the crap out of my feet, toes and knees. My left knee is hurt. Trauma to the quad tendon and some fluid under the kneecap. This is due to the downhills being too steep to let go and required lots of running with the brakes on. Last updated: 2012-02-27 12:00 AM

Got up about 5am. drank some liquid, munched a little trail mix. Soaked my feet. Walked the dogs.
Left by 6:15. Arrived at race site at 7:00 for 8am start. Got 2 numbers, 2 timing chips...one for the 8am 5k and the 9am 10k.
Began warmup about 30 minutes before start. Jogged around easily for at least 1 mile. Did 3 strides...should have done more.
Don't think I was fully warmed up.
