Subject: Carrying spare tube on Cervelo P2

Hi, I just bought a new P2 for my return to triathlon :-)

In addition to the down tube bottle cage, I'm planning to add a bottle hammock between the aero bars to sort hydration, but I have a dilemma about carrying my repair kit...

Putting it all in a jersey pocket is not practical, and taping it to the seatpost doesn't seem very secure. I've read that the Fizik seatbag made to work with my Arione saddle won't fit with the aero seatpost - can anyone confirm this?

I'm tempted to put an xlab sonic wing on, but it seems a huge amount of money for an insignificant item, and isn't the best aerodynamically, but would give me another bottle option...

Cervelo owners, how have you overcome this?

I use a small Xlab Pocket Rocket bento box. Just enough room for all of my flat supplies and a goo or two.

I had similar problems.  I installed a behind-the-seat bottle cage so I had to creatively rig my Pedros flat repair kit to the seat since the cage got in the way.  I wrapped the velcro straps around the seat's rail mounts tied off the other strap where the top tube and seat tube meet.  Works great for me.  Wish I had a picture to show  :-/

So you have the small Rocket Pocket (22 cu. in.) and not the XL (36 cu. in.) one? And it's big enough to store a spare tube, tire irons and what, a CO2 inflator? I hate the idea of loading my bike down with bags, but if it has to be done, then that's a small, neat solution - and cheap enough too.

It would still be useful even if I add a sonic wing behind the seat at some point, I suppose.

Just went out and looked.  It is an XL.  I carry a tube, 2 levers, microflate, 2 CO2 and it still has plenty of room.  I could probably stuff 4 Goos in it easy.  I also tested it and it will hold two tubes if I cram it.  I had looked at the regular size and it would have fit all of the tire stuff and a Goo but that is about it.  I want to start doing some longer races so decided to go with the XL so I could jam another tube in there or more nutrition.  It fits nice and tight and if you believe some of what you read out there might actually make the bike more aero.

Hey, thanks for checking, that's a great help... I'm going to go for one of those. They are only $20-25, so I suppose I could get both and use them for different purposes, or put the other on my road bike (shock horror).

I keep aero drink up front, bottle in cage, fuelbelt with tubes, lever, and CO2 when I race like in my profile pic..

That looks tidy @triathlonandy - thanks for posting the pics. I haven't decided whether to use an aero bottle up front, or a regular bottle held horizontally, but the bento box for flat kit seems a good option whatever. Have you found it affects the bike handling having that weight on the bars?

Half the battle is going to be how to recognise my bike in a sea of other almost identical P2s!! Thankfully, only small races for me this year.

A useful thread for another new 'share the ride' P2 owner! Thanks guys.

I was going to do the horizontal bottle, but after experimenting realize there isn't enough room for the cage, bottle, and my Joule computer. Short arms! So PD Aerolite and cage on the down tube.

I use an Xlab Tire Bag.  It has an extra long strap that fits around the seatpost.  I also keep a second tube wedged between the seat rails.

Bento box is always good and the way I roll... and no the aero bottle hasn't affected or bother me handling wise. Another idea if you can also leave a race jersey to change into in T1 and put extra tubes in the back pocket along with your Gu or Shotblocks etc.
