Total Time = 1h 07m 51s
Overall Rank = 42/
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Ate my usual breakfast of oatmeal with cinnamon and honey on top. Packed-up the car, and we headed down to Morgan Hill.
Event warmup:

Jogged 4 laps around the track at the high school, and stretched out well.
Run
  • 17m 17s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

The first run felt fine, though it seemed like I ran a lot faster than I really did. I certainly passed a lot of people, though I was never passed on the run.
What would you do differently?:

This race was mostly a season kickoff for me, and it allowed me to see where I am at physically. If the race had more significance for me I'd probably taper appropriately, and ensure I got a massage earlier in the week. Also, the SBDU was my first duathlon, and so I was probably a little conservative on the run. My goal was for both runs to be close in finishing times.
Transition 1
  • 01m 4s
Bike
  • 31m 24s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.11 mile/hr
Comments:

It was impossible not to feel yesterday's 3 hour training ride. If my legs had been fresher, I most certainly would have performed much better.
What would you do differently?:

Taper a little, and give my legs a break the day before the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Meh! T2 felt MUCH faster than T1, but then again I did fumble around with my number which decided to come off of my race belt during the bike leg.
Run
  • 16m 50s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Strangely enough, this run felt much slower than the first run. Certainly, this run was much tougher mentally, and wow was I ever huffin' and puffin' on this run! On the bright side, I finished stronger compared to run 1, which was a goal for me in this race.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Waited for Tim - who was right behind me, chatted with a colleague, then grabbed a bagel with cream cheese and water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Did I mention this was my second consecutive build week in my training plan? Track intervals on Thursday evening, 75' on the bike on Friday, and close to 3 hours on Saturday, so my legs were certainly not as fresh as they could be. Before events I usually get a massage about mid-week, but I didn't do that this time. Oh, and, I have not had a recovery day since 2/21/12, and I do feel that one is in order...say, tomorrow!

Good job.  I was able to keep you in sight on the first run and the bike but lost you on the second run!

Great job negative splitting those two runs! That is quite an accomplishment, not to mention heavy workouts all week long..wish I had met you and Steady Tim! Great race.

Absolutely!  I don't believe we've met any BT'ers at any of our races, so it would finally be great to make that connection in real life.
