If you want a TRUCK then go buy a Toyota Tundra Crew Max 4x4. I have one and LOVE it. It has more interior room than a lot of those SUVs, plus an open bed for really big stuff. 100,000 miles is just getting warmed up for a Toyota. I also have a Toyota Tundra crew cab Rock Warrior edition. Its a 2010 and I love it. I also have a 2006 4Runner that is my 4th 4Runner that I have owned. Toyotas are hard to beat and run FOREVER. |

Expert 1215 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Help me pick out a new truck! I love my Infiniti FX. It is 140,000 miles young. I have taken it off road but it is no mor ecpapabel than a BMXW as far as that goes. I mention my Infiniti because it is a Nissan and they are built to last. Nissan has the XTerra and Pathfinder for small to midsized SUVs. Since you're only looking for 60k miles, you might also consider a Porsche Cayanne. They are capable off road. As for trucks, my F250 turbodiesel Superduty is bombproof. It is my company truck and I have my employees using it to haul heavy loads on construction sites.

It may be too large or I would have recommended a Sequoia. It can be a PITA to park sometimes. I love my Tundra, hauls anything I need to haul, and can carry anything I want. When you consider that it's 5800lbs with 381hp it gets decent mileage. The wife has an CUV (4-cyl Highlander) so we use that when we go downtown. If economy is an issue, I'll drive my 20-yr old CRX. Toyotas, Hondas, and Mazdas are good choices, but may be too plebeian for this audience. Especially when you look at the names of the high-dollar options named. Even the new Explorers look nice.
My truck (it has a bed). |

From my experience, if you find a truck that has not given you any problem, hold on to it!! You might buy a lemon instead and be broken down in the bush all the time. And I have not heard of any problems with trucks surviving Canadian winters when it passes 100k. |

Subject: RE: Help me pick out a new truck! As I sit at my desk watching these Chevy and GMC crew cabs go down the production line.....I wonder waht I am going to suggest. A gas modle will get you about 20 or so on the hwy and about 18 running around town. I have the smaller 5.3 in mine and I pull a 5000 pound boat without a hick-up. If you want some real towing power or, plowing or just not going to get stopped by weather we have the larger gas or even the Duramax Disels. The crew will give you lots of interior space and a bed for whatever you want to haul. We use it as the family truck and it find it very nice on short and longer trips. My wife actually drives it most of the winter and I drive the Vibe. She has no problems driving it and is shorter at 5'2" Really the only problem you have is picking out what color you want Joe |

My Wrangler is 10 yrs old, has 100,000 miles on it and is still running great. I'll trade it in when it has been completely used up. And that will probably be for the 4 door model. BTW, I can fit more stuff in there then you would think. |

Kinda' wanted to fold the back two rows down and camp out in it last night... I have heard a lot of very good things about the Pilot. It's definately moving higher up on my 'must test drive' list. Also the Subaru, and Jeep, and maybe another Rover .. there's just too many to choose from which is why I'm starting to do my research now. Thanks everyone for your (mostly) useful recommendations. The reasons I am ready to begin looking for a new vehicle is no one's decision but my own, and I have my reasons. I have put a few more possibles on my list now thanks to this thread. Cheers. |

Elite 3491 In The Peleton | Subject: RE: Help me pick out a new truck! We bought a 2011 Outback last fall. It drives great, has lots of space, and gets high 20's for gas mileage. If you want swanky Subaru definitely offers it with the loaded models. It replaced a 1995 Subaru Legacy with 170k on it. Plan to have it for 10 or 15 years which will probably be close to 200k miles. |

Champion 4835 Eat Cheese or Die | Subject: RE: Help me pick out a new truck! Another vote for the Honda Pilot. Ours has a bit over 100k miles on it, and we plan to drive it for at least another 5 years. It's a 2006. We bought the loaded trim level and there was no appreciable difference between it and the Acura MDX of the same year other than a hefty price increase for the name. In fact, when my Audi goes, I'm going to start driving our current Pilot and unless something amazing comes along, we'll be replacing the Audi with another pilot for my wife. At first I didn't like the latest redesign, but it's grown on me and the interior updates seem to be all positives. As an aside, the Audi Allroad is not truly "all road." I sunk mine in mud up to the frame last summer and had to get pulled out. Could have been the summer tires that were to blame though ETA: I wouldn't call the Pilot a truck. I refer to it as a bloated station wagon. Edited by graceful_dave 2012-03-18 11:18 PM |

Although we have dissimilar taste in vehicles and I have the coin to buy a new car at any time but the last two I bought had over 50K miles on them, good for you! Don't let other people coach you, without knowing anything of your finances, on how to spend your money. Is a land-rover worth the price of admission to me? Nope. But my criteria may be different than yours (branding, for example)... and what's to say mine are better than yours? Buy the car that you want, especially if you have the cash (or even if you don't as long as you don't start playing the victim when life happens and all the sudden your car payment is hard to make). I don't mean this to sound condescending... but I need people like you to buy my cars from |

then the OP doesn't go on a public message board asking for opinions not expecting to be criticized. |

Agreed. Most of the SUV's are just bloated station wagons. I live in the south so a truck is a pickup truck with a bed and a tailgate. I like the Pilot but it's pretty expensive for the size. I like the tahoe for that price. |

I think usual timing belt change is somewhere around 100k miles |
