Comments: I started hard. I didn't realize how fast I was going until until I looked at my watch on the 1.25 km mark. One week ago I run 5 km in 19:33 min and I was struggling all the way. This time I felt good and I decided to hold the pace for as long as I could. I was running in a large group until the turnaround point. Then group picked up the pace a little and I was left alone for the rest of the run. My tempo droped, but I still managed to improve my PR for 47 sec. What would you do differently?: I could hold the group until the finnish but I didn't have fate in my abilities. I think that I could run this in 18:00, but there was bike and second run in front of me, so maybe it was better to hold back. Next time I'll start slower and try to manage negative split. ![]() Transition 1

Comments: T1 and T2 are included in bike time. I lost few positions in T1. I was riding in a group. Our pace was slow so the group was getting bigger. In second lap I got cramps in both of my calves. From that point I was struggling to hold the group. What would you do differently?: I started with bike training couple of weeks ago, and I just put on clipless pedals. I think that's why I got cramps. Pace was comfortable. I could have pushed a lot harder but my calves didn't let me. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: As I got in T2 cramps got worse. I've lost more than 2 minutes because I couldn't get in my running shoes because of the cramps. A lot of people passed me at this point. What would you do differently?: Practise transitions. ![]() Run

Warm down: Light run and strech What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramps. Insufficient bike training. Event comments: It was my first race and I'm happy for that. I satisfied with my running. The bike will get better when I put in more training hours. Last updated: 2006-05-18 12:00 AM

Ate light breakfast at 6.00. Race start was at 10:00.
I run 10 min easy with 3 x 20 sec fartlecs in race tempo. After that I've done a little stretching and keeped my self warm until the start.
